Summer is here, with its summer temperatures, BBQs with friends and holidays by the sea (or elsewhere). But not that! There are many series to watch without moderation to keep busy during the hours too hot. JustFocus offers you today a selection of 5 series, to discover or review.
Workin' Moms, a quality Canadian series
Workin' Moms is a Canadian comedy-drama film written and directed by Catherine Reitman (who is also one of the series' lead actresses). Available since February 2019 on the Netflix platform, Workin'Moms takes place in Canada in the city of Toronto. Divided into 5 seasons of about 11 episodes of 20 minutes, it follows the personal and professional daily life of 4 women (Catherine Reitmann, Jessalyn Wanlim, Dani King and Juno Rinaldi) after maternity leave. This series, although carrying a rather banal subject, is refreshing by its humor, its short format and its well-brought stories. In addition, the characters are very endearing and immerse you in a pleasant and comforting feeling of "this could be my life".
The plus: several social topics are addressed, such as social networks among young people, ART (medically assisted procreation), the LGBTQ cause…
In summary, it is an ideal series to clear your head, laugh and have a good time relaxing.
PS: season 6 has already been scheduled!
Also in the dramatic comedy style, Sex/life is an American series that can be defined by one word: HOT. Indeed, this creation of Stacy Rukeyser will raise the temperature a notch this summer. Available since June 25 on the Netflix platform, this series is already talking about it.
The story is told by a young woman, Billie (Sarah Shahi, known for her role in Person of Interest) who succeeds in everything: a lovely and brilliant husband, a sublime house, two beautiful and healthy children… However, the young stay-at-home mother is torn by the very erotic memories with a certain Brad (Adam Demos) and her almost platonic but comforting marriage to Cooper (Mike Vogel) and begins to write a diary.
Very well received by critics, Sex/Life is already No. 1 on Top10 Netflix after only a few days on the platform.
Let yourself be tempted!
PS: season 2 is already in production!
"And who am I? That's a secret I'll never tell. You know you love me, XOXO, Gossip Girl" … Does this sentence bring back good memories? Then you'll be happy to know that the Upper East Side's most famous gossip will return to service in a 10-episode sequel available on HBO Max starting July 8.
Directed by Joshua Safran, this reboot takes place 8 years after the identity of Gossip Girl was revealed. The students of Constance Billard will see their secrets revealed by several "gossip" via the Instagram network. Moreover, while remaining "in the juice" of the original series, this version 2.0 will address more social issues than the old version.
So, if some are eager and others seem suspicious (as for loyalty to the old version) it is sure that this series will make noise! In addition, it is envisaged that some characters from the time of Blair and Serena will make appearances (in addition to existing in conversations via the reputation they had made during their time at private high school).
PS: you will be delighted to learn that it is indeed Kristen Bell who will take her voice to count you the adventures of the golden youth of Manhattan.
The amazing siblings of the Umbrella Academy are back for a new season! After solving the case around the death of their father, Dr. Hargreeves (Colm Feore) in season 1; Traveled to the Dallas of the 60s in season 2, the siblings are back.
Created by Steve Blackman, this fantasy series has been a great success since its release in 2019. Although the flashbacks and multiple back and forth in time can put viewers in difficulty, the well-brought plots and the quality of the cast make it a very enjoyable and attractive series.
SPOILER ALERT
The cliffhanger of the last episode suggests one thing: new headliners will share the lines of your favorite characters. Indeed, when they return to our time, the Hargreeves are surprised to realize that their time travel has changed the present they knew. Professor Hargreeves seems to have created a completely different team of extraordinary people, from the fortuitous births of October 1, 1989…
How will Number 5 (Aidan Gallagher) Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Michael Sheehan) and the others deal with this new plot? You will find out by watching season 3 planned very soon on Netflix.
Locke and Key is a 2020 American science fiction series created by Joe Hill, who previously wrote the eponymous novels. A great success since its release, the Netflix platform announced season 2 just a few weeks after the broadcast of the premiere. And it's official now: the Lockes and their extraordinary house are back for a season 2 in October!
If the series follows the books, we can obviously expect to discover new keys with incredible magical powers, but also more information about the famous Omega key and the secrets hidden behind the door it unlocks.
Many elements have contributed to the excitement around this series. Indeed, from the cast to the plot, through a magnificent photographic direction and a very neat soundtrack, everything is there. We hope that season 2 will be up to par, but after seeing some images in preview on Netflix, we can think that the contract will be respected, at least in terms of quality.
So much for our selection of series to see or review for the summer, enough to make you laugh, make you cry and keep you in suspense until September! Many other series such as The A list, Elite, The Bridgerton Chronicles or "Who killed Sara?" will also see a sequel coming very soon, if they are not already published, so stay tuned!
