To warm us up this winter, Pretty Smart is the perfect series. Netflix offers us a new comedy series, which began in October 2021. This is one of the funniest new series of the year. Pretty Smart brings together well-known actors from the small screen such as Emily Osment (actress in Hannah Montana a few years ago) playing Chelsea, an Ivy League graduate and aspiring novelist. These plans take a new turn when she moves to Los Angeles to join her boyfriend, who will leave her as soon as she sets foot in this new city. She then moves into the roommate of her heart, Claire (Olivia Macklin).
Two very different but hilarious sisters together
Chelsea is a young woman with a degree, who spends her time reading and cultivating herself. Conversely, his sister left her mother's house very early, and did not go to university. Between the two sisters, there is a gap intellectually and culturally. However, the two sisters have an alchemy and they complement each other. One is strong for intellectual success, the other is better for human relationships. Moreover, over the episodes, their relationship evolves and we quickly become attached to the two characters. During the 10 episodes of the series, Chelsea grows closer and closer to Grant (Gregg Sulkin), Claire's ex-boyfriend and roommate, but her recurring feelings for her could put an end to this romance. A relationship that we discover during the series.
Colourful roommates
In addition to Clair, and Grant, Chelsea will have to cohabit with the influencer Jayden (Michael Hsu Rosen), a character who likes to express her emotions by dancing, and Solana (Cinthya Carmona), a former lawyer turned spiritual healer. These two characters are extremely well written, and they accompany the story perfectly. As the episodes progress, Chelsea opens up more and more to these new friends and especially to her sister, with whom she has not lived since childhood. The chemistry between all the characters is really nice. Pretty Smart can quickly bring to mind Disney Channel comedies (from which Emily Osment and Gregg Sulkin are based), but also comedies from ABC or NBC, because the series keeps a somewhat mature tone on certain subjects. The series deals with a disconcerting realism certain subjects such as homosexuality, relationships between sisters, addiction to social networks, but also some subjects quite distant from the lives of the spectators such as the pressure of celebrity. If you want a series to watch quickly, with endearing characters, and a successful ending clap, Just Focus highly recommends Pretty Smart. For now, Netflix has not announced season 2 but at the writing we cross our fingers!
