Disney + has just unveiled the second episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. After a fairly classic introduction, the show seems to confirm the expectations of fans: a proposal very rooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Unlike WandaVision, this new series remains very orthodox compared to the rest of the Marvel universe.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier: the plot slowly falls into place
After an introduction of the two heroes in the first episode, this second chapter accelerates the pace and confronts Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. The two men meet again a few months after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Captain America's two sidekicks will put their differences aside to try to team up, and fight a new threat: the Flag-Smashers. In parallel, Malcolm Spellman (the showrunner) unveils the new Captain America, in the guise of Wyatt Russell. This new episode does not offer much more than the previous one. The action scenes are relatively controlled and refer to the Captain America movies. The recurring valves are more or less successful but create a good dynamic between the two protagonists. On the staging side, Malcolm Spellman is not very original and shares a product finally quite formatted, which does not go beyond the usual frames of the MCU.
The appearance of two cult characters
Finally, this second episode introduces two new characters. Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes decide to visit a retiree who turns out to be Isaiah Bradley. The latter is very famous among comic book readers but much less so among the general public. He was the first Captain America in history, some time before Steve Rogers, and especially the first African-American super-soldier. Created in 2003, he is the grandfather of another cult character: Patriot. He too seems to make a brief appearance in the same sequence (without having confirmed his identity), and should logically be another member of the Young Avengers, introduced little by little during this phase 4 of the MCU. At the moment, he is the fourth member of this team to appear after Cassie Lang, Wiccan and Speed. Soon, Kate Bishop, Miss Marvel and Riri Williams will complete this team of young superheroes. Finally, the outcome of the episode promises heavy as to the continuation of the operations since the two heroes decide to turn to a supervillain well known to the public to obtain information. This second chapter ends with Baron Zemo, who will make his comeback, still in the guise of Daniel Brühl. In short, Falcon and the Winter Soldier is generally nice, but it is sorely lacking in ambition at the moment. https://youtu.be/5KkPxvQrDbQ
