Immerse yourself in the artist's French studio with the Picasso Museum

Find an important collection of modern art based on exceptional donations made by artists. The Picasso Museum houses works by Picasso, Arman, Modigliani, Raynaud, Corneille, Combas, etc. among others. The museum is open every day except Mondays and offers access to its collections from 6€. For the record, before becoming a historical monument, Grimaldi Castle was inhabited by bishops in the Middle Ages and then by the Monegasque family who gave it its name. In 1925, it was officially bought by the city of Antibes and became the Grimaldi Museum with Romuald Dor de la Souchère as its first curator. It was only two decades later that, during his stay in Antibes, Picasso was offered part of the castle as a workshop.  This proposal will result in a large repertoire of paintings and drawings left on deposit by the artist. Examples include Satyr, Le Gobeurs d'Oursins, La Chèvre…  The Picasso room was inaugurated on September 22, 1947 with the first hanging of Antibes works. Then many works are added to the repertoire over the years, until the renaming of the Grimaldi Museum Picasso Museum, December 27, 1966 – making this museum the first dedicated to the artist.  Today, the museum presents a very varied repertoire of artists, including Nicolas de Stael. The pieces of the latter testify to his stay in Antibes. They were given by his wife after his death.
