There are artists who last over time, able to reinvent themselves without losing them. Julie Zenatti is one of them. Meeting with the artist to look back on his career on the occasion of his concert at the Trianon on February 6th. JustFocus : When listening to this album we feel a great French pop influence coming from France Gall, Michel Berger. Is this an idea you had at the beginning of the creation of the album? Julie Zenatti : Beyond a feeling and an influence, it's a real inspiration. We can see it in the creation of the clip of Tout est plus pop, with the resumption of the codes that are specific to France Gall in the way I am dressed for example. It's really more than an influence, it's totally assumed. It is a deliberate tribute to this period and to this artist. It's also, I think, a way to be grateful to this artist. https://youtu.be/HubawMct50c JF : When you see the album credits, you see the same names come up a lot of times, how do you create an album identity as strong as in this one? JZ: The album I am the author of 90% of the texts, songs, since I wrote them I think in the same period, the mood of these songs is the same. Each song has a bit of my paw. Then, on several songs, there is the paw of Vincent Brion who co-wrote. I'm glad I was able to work with Barbra Pravi too. We are really on a small writing team. On the other hand, I was lucky afterwards to have very different composers like Romain Berrodier with whom I worked on Rien de spécial and Plein Phare. "It's not at all a construction this album or an exercise in style, it's related to what built my musical education" JF: We could see that a reissue of the album had emerged. But this reissue is only available in physics, so impossible to find on download platforms. Why this choice? JZ : It's a personal desire, I wanted to create an object. It was a way for me to end the story of this record, with a special object. Before the arrival of the digital format, the disc was a special object and I really wanted to go back to that. Allow you to find this emotion, to buy and own a record. I had a few songs left that I wanted to share. https://open.spotify.com/artist/3CoYG5pUuCzGnXzPoOkaNY JF: Besides France Gall and Michel Berger, did you have any other inspirations when making this album? JZ : When I created it, I really wanted to be inspired by this 70-80 year atmosphere. I do not think it was thoughtful. I wrote first Comme un pirate en mer and Tout Est Plus Pop, I didn't really have a brief when we created these songs with the team I realized that we were in a very 70-80 French pop variety. It's not at all a construction of this album or an exercise in style, it's related to what built my musical education, things like Gall, Sanson and many others that are part of my childhood. "It's a bit magical all that" JF: It's been more than twenty years that the public follows you, how do you manage to have the desire to continue after so many years? JZ: That's kind of what I say in making the flowers dance again , I still think I have things to say, relevant things. After, it's also a question of inspiration I can sometimes put more than five years between two albums because of that. Because sometimes, I have nothing to say, nothing to pass through the song. There is no miracle recipe, I let my instinct sail over what I want to say. It's kind of magical. https://youtu.be/aI904z-1rhg JF : In your album, you address very diverse subjects, we can see for example, the song And Why not which addresses feminism, is it important for you to address such social topics? JZ: Yes, I like to define myself as an everyday singer, I write about what I see, what I feel. I know that my life may be a little special because of what I do. But I see the everyday, I see the sexism of our society, so I talk about it. JF: You have a date, February 6 at the Trianon in Paris, and that, after not being able to be on stage for several months, is the desire different? JZ: The desire is intact I would say. Maybe it's a little different because we made a record that we couldn't really defend in front of the public. I do this job because I love going on stage. I haven't been able to do it for a long time so the desire is at its maximum. JZ : It wasn't planned like that. I was sixteen when I played the role. I have no idea if it's going to continue, if it's a step if it's the end too. So I take it as it comes.I was lucky to be able to find like the artists of Notre Dame, to find an audience and to be able to continue a career. In writing the song if I get out of it I don't meet an audience, but the audience follows me. It's magical a little bit all that. I was lucky, very lucky. Julie Zenatti Mon monde parfait L ecole de ma fille Ava Interview with Julie Zenatti: "It's a bit magical."   JF: You were never afraid that the public would not follow you on this career? JZ : The question does not arise, once you have tasted the song, the stage, you want to go back, you think about having fun with yourself. To do what you love. We go there with his desire, his guts. Sometimes you find your way. This is the principle of our professions. You are never sure of anything, you never know anything and if you start with fear you don't get out of it. JF : A quick question about your current musical tastes. What are you currently listening to? JZ : After a big French pop period year 70-80, now I am a lot on the last Clara Luciani, I had a crush on Juliette Armanet's album, I really like Woodkid too. That's kind of my current playlist. JF: You're currently shooting a new music video. Can we find out more? JZ : I won't be able to, it's a little surprise for my fans. (laughs)
