Since April 23, Clio's new album "L'amour hélas" is available in all points of sale and on the various download platforms. Similarly, his clip "The apartment" in collaboration with Iggy Pop is available since 11am this morning. In this third album, we find Clio on romantic ballads, melancholic tunes. Like the entire France, Clio found itself confined to its home in Besançon in March 2020. This confinement was an opportunity for her to write and compose this new album. The Justfocus editorial team had the chance to meet Clio in Paris to talk to us about this new project. I'm very happy to know that it comes out tomorrow, it's always a bit long between the time we finish all the work and the time of release. So I'm really very happy. Well, of course, we are a little overwhelmed by a lot of things and we are waiting for what everyone will think of our project. But I'm glad these sounds come out of their "holes". This theme of melancholy is still present in this new opus especially with "Ai-je perdu le nord", why again this choice? I think it's not really a choice, this theme has been found since the beginning, in each of my albums because it is this state that leads me to writing. It's something that's always under-adjacent in my songs. Even if I don't always talk about it, it's a shade that always comes up a little. In terms of recording and music videos, what was the song you liked the most? We worked on all the songs at the same time, not one after the other and then things took shape. I don't have distinct memories of any particular song. Afterwards, I did this work with the team that had already worked on the previous album and they are three boys with whom I have a lot of fun to work, so I loved every moment of it. However, for the making of the clips, my best memory was during the filming of Elle veux where I had brought the musicians, because usually, they are not there during the clips. We had chosen beautiful floral combinations. It was an incredible moment with a sequence shot where everyone had a small role to play at the right time, and so no one had to make a mistake and it was very funny. And I must say that this is my best memory of any shooting of music videos. It's an incredible and dreamed team and a project that I really enjoyed realizing. What was this duet with Iggy Pop like? Giant! Even if it wasn't a duet recorded in real life. That is, we didn't meet to record together, in person. Since the making of this album happened during this painful period and therefore we have not yet had the opportunity to really sing together; to have that "real" moment of song. But we recorded separately, him in the United States, and me here. And I have to say that just getting Iggy Pop's voice on my song was completely amazing, and I still haven't really gotten over it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-m_LN7qrMc Are you planning to meet with Iggy Pop soon? We had already planned to meet in April, and unfortunately, everything is too complicated, and then it's better to meet in better conditions than the current ones, so I don't feel any urgency about that. I just know it will happen, but in any case, I can't wait to meet him. After this duet with Iggy Pop, do you have other artists in mind with whom you would like to do duets? Yes, I would like to do a duet with Alex Beaupin, it would be with great pleasure. Since he is a person for whom I have a lot of admiration and I will be very happy to share a song with him. You have chosen Isabelle Maurel again for the realization of your clips for this third album. Why this choice? Because he's someone really essential to my work around my latest songs because… Originally, we didn't meet to shoot a music video. She had come to see me after a concert and told me about her plan to make a film, a feature film. She wanted me to write songs to accompany her project. So we really met like that and not just in a professional clip report. No, we met because my songs touched her and I think it's a good starting point for a long collaboration. And every time, she amazes me with all her ideas and I think we're not done working together! It is truly an exceptional meeting! And this feature film project will materialize soon? Currently, it's in writing for her and for me too, since I committed to writing for this feature film. And knowing her, I think this project will see the light of day. By the way, she directed four music videos on this album, but for now, there are only two of the clips that have been released and two are coming but already shot. One tomorrow, and one, in a few weeks. Was the making of this album different from others because of COVID-19 and sanitary conditions? For writing, yes I think because it was a whole period where I found myself a little "forced" to stay at home and therefore a period to focus on the things we have at home and that we love, and therefore, writing songs, that's part of it for me. I think it was my way of going through all this, and so yes, it played into the fact that all his songs were written in a fairly short period of time. This period passed quickly for me because I wrote a lot. This period gave me time to write when I felt like I didn't have much. What do you plan next after this album? So, I'm someone who doesn't envision big things in advance, but I'm going to keep writing songs because that's what I like to do, so maybe it will draw a record next. In any case, I will also focus on the songs of Isabelle Maurel's film, which I have already started. It's really the kind of project I'm passionate about so I'm going into it with great pleasure! After this pandemic, do you have any plans for live concerts or festivals? Normally, if we can, there are two dates planned for this summer that are supposed to continue, but otherwise, the real beginning of his songs on stage will be in the fall. Do not hesitate to read the interview of Anaud le Gouëfflec for his new comic strip.
