THE STRANGER
"He buried his mother with a criminal heart"
The company La lune à l'envers skilfully stages the stranger based on the novel by Albert Camus. This is a creation performed at the Festival d'Avignon off. It is in his prison cell that we find Meursault, the stranger, haggard, hesitating between reality and misunderstanding. From a simple affair and in the time of the play the character alone on stage, brilliantly embodied by Benjamin Ziziemsky, makes us relive through flashback the whole affair that will finally lead him to the scaffold.
A sober and effective game for this stranger played by Benjamin Ziziemsky
The staging of Gérard Col and Benjamin Ziziemsky is skilfully conducted. And it is through cleverly arranged plays of light that we move from one place to another. From the retirement home to the criminal court, via the beach or in the interrogation room. This is how the illusion of a change of scenery is perfect.
Also remarkable is the game of Benjamin Ziziemsky , which in the form of confession reveals all his feelings of revolt, misunderstanding, terror and hatred. On his own, he embodies several characters who have made this stranger a masterpiece of literature. He brilliantly portrays the taciturn judge locked in his religious convictions, the lawyer little interested in his client, Marie whose romantic feelings fade little by little. And so scroll all the witness characters at the bar. Is the trial about trying a murder or Meursault's indifference to his mother's death? The game is sober as if to show the loneliness of the stranger but very effective and masterfully given.
Four brief knocks knocked at the door of misfortune.
Since the four shots, the tension has been in dramatic and poignant crescendo in which hope is vain.
I think of Mom.
In the cruel indifference of the world, Meursault learns of the judge's final decision. The spectator, although already warned, deeply feels the injustice of the trial. It is all the talent of the actor who intervenes there.
Really a big congratulations to the company the moon upside down for having made the foreigner a breathtaking performance! To see without any hesitation!
