After their success at the Bouffes du Nord this winter, and trained by their director Jean-Christophe Meurisse, theDogs of Navarre continue their tour in the four corners of the France… and Navarre! The opportunity to discover Jusque Dans Vos Bras at "provincial rates less excessive than those practiced in Parisian theaters" (according to Jean-Christophe Meurisse himself).
A pinch of national identity mixed with a touch of France history…
With Jusque dans vos bras, the iconoclastic collective tackles politico-provocative issues with a humor woven with absurdity and sarcasm. After flirting with the laughter deconstruction of contemporary institutions or realities such as the couple, the company or the media, the Dogs of Navarre tackle this hot topic: French identity. And more precisely, national identity, a kind of Loch Ness of the political agenda in France recent years.
It is through a series of patchwork paintings that Jean-Christophe Meurisse invites his actors to seize, in bulk, themes such as the situation of the Socialist Party, the reception of migrants, homosexuality, racism, the link with our great national figures (from Joan of Arc to De Gaulle via Marie-Antoinette, always in hilarious parodies defying clichés and deconstructing myths). More than developing a real argumentative discourse on these facets of national identity, the Dogs of Navarre, with their provocative and committed tone, confront us with our contradictions and our right-thinking.
… The hilarious recipe of the Dogs of Navarre
At the limit of the absurd, Until in your arms offers us scenes whose relevance is not always equal, but which reveal all truths more or less assumed by a people plagued by its paradoxes: how far is the country of Human Rights willing to go to be worthy of its motto, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity?
Certainly the French petty bourgeoisie is treated by Les Chiens de Navarre with a certain tenderness, but the situations that always slip in a frantic rhythm bring the burlesque side that counterbalances the seriousness of the subjects. From realism, we slide towards the improbable.
Faced with small or large human tragedies, impertinence is always in order, to titillate our consciences and especially for our greatest pleasure as spectators! The irreverence is matched only by the physical commitment of the actors who, as always with the Dogs of Navarre, amaze us with their sense of rhythm, their ability to integrate current events and rub shoulders with improvisation that gives freshness and liveliness to their dialogues as crazy as militant!
