One of the most original and grandiose cultural events of this fall: Deadtown, the new show of the Forman Brothers is to be discovered absolutely at La Villette until October 15th!
Welcome to the Forman Brothers' Saloon!
If you do not know the Forman Brothers yet, here is finally the opportunity for you to meet these two loustics coming straight from the Czech Republic, where they are true idols!
Petr and Matej – twins of director Milos Forman – have been wandering around the world for twenty years and their shows are always awaited with curiosity and impatience. With Deadtown, they invite us to enter their new structure: a wooden and metal marquee, built for the occasion, which plunges us directly into the saloon atmosphere. The invitation will even be pushed to its climax at the end of the show where we are invited to share a drink in the sets, at the counter of the saloon!
Czech cabaret…
The first part of the show takes us into the cabaret of a Czech magician. The paintings follow one another in a frantic rhythm. Cowboys, Indians, dancers, bicycle acrobats (breathtaking!), and singers follow one another. The tone is set, the show will be burlesque. Comic highlighted by the grotesque magic tricks of the Czech illusionist magician. The twenty artists (how good it feels to see a show with so many people!) offers us a breathless show in a delirious atmosphere. The decorations on wheels move, and disappear or appear for the time of a breath with a watchmaker's meticulousness. The music is made live by a live orchestra. In short, all the ingredients of popular cabaret are there.
But this very joyful first part soon gives way to a flashback and takes us back in time with the magician…
… At the Wild West Saloon
The screens unfold before our eyes and after an immersive journey (sizzle, bewitching soundtrack, all the ingredients of the old films are there) through the plains of the Wild West, we have arrived at the time of cowboys… More specifically, in Deadtown, the first city to see the famous WANTED wanted notices adorn its walls. In the grip of a sandstorm, this "fucking quiet town" of Deadtown took refuge in the saloon.
And now a veritable hymn to spaghetti westerns unfolds before us, as in our childhood. A silent film takes place before our eyes, and we believe in it. The performers incredibly realize the jerky or slow-motion movements that characterize black and white films and cowboy duel scenes. Music is omnipresent and even if we can sometimes feel a little lost in this protean scenario, we find ourselves completely caught up in this incredible adventure.
Deadtown is circus, it's theater, it's a concert, it's cinema, it's magic… It's all at once, and it's inventive and talented at best!
