Stop everything! A new Star Wars trilogy is in the works, under the leadership of Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars 8 – The Last Jedi!
Disney and Lucasfilm don't seem willing to let go of their goose that lays the golden eggs. And who could blame them, when we know the phenomenon that is Star Wars today in popular culture? It is for this reason that the company with big ears has just announced the preparation of a brand new trilogy, which would be completely separate from the story we already know. Indeed, this trilogy should take place in a corner of the galaxy that is unknown to us. Also, this story would not focus on the Skywalker family.Regarding the direction, it seems that Rian Johnson is about to take care of this trilogy entirely. At least that's what Kathleen Kennedy suggested, and she also said:
"We all loved working with Rian Johnson on The Last Jedi. He is very creative and watching him create The Last Jedi from start to finish has been one of the greatest pleasures of my career."
Regarding the production, Johnson should be accompanied by his faithful collaborator Ram Bergman, already at his side for Brick, Looper and obviously Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi. However, we are only at the announcement stage and many more Star Wars films will have to see the light of day before we can discover this new trilogy. Among these films, we find:
- Star Wars VIII – The Last Jedi will arrive on December 13.
- Solo – A Star Wars Story that will arrive in May 2018.
- Star Wars IX scheduled for December 20, 2019 and including J.J. Abrams took over the reins (after Colin Trevorrow was fired).
- A spin-off on Obi-Wan Kenobi that has been confirmed but without any date being given.
In short, a hell of a calendar for the giant Disney/Lucasfilm! We can only hope that this new trilogy lives up to Rian Johnson's talent, while offering us new perspectives on the Star Wars universe. While waiting for new information, let's enjoy without moderation the trailer of Star Wars 8 – The Last Jedi, which will land in our theaters on December 13.
