Joe and Zack are two brothers who lost their father as children. Zack, became a police officer, like his father. Joe, on the other hand, is a noodle delivery man. But their lives will be turned upside down when they discover mysterious artifacts.
An action-packed first volume
The first volume of Space Punch begins with a motorcycle chase! Indeed, a police officer, Zack, is pursuing a thug. Right from the start, the action is there, and it's very appreciated. So we follow Zack in a frantic race, trying by all means to stop a thief. Speed race, gunshot, acrobatics, … it's all there! As you can guess, our main character will succeed in stopping this thug. However, this does not mean that the case is played.
Indeed, the police of Miraï city suffers from a very complicated evil to eradicate … corruption. As soon as he arrived at the police station with our thug, the latter was released. It turns out that he belongs to a mysterious organization, of which the police are probably a part. How can Zack, an honest policeman, clean the streets of a city in chao when even the police are corrupt? Well, that's what we can't wait to discover!
But in this first volume, we do not only follow our budding hero. Indeed, we also follow Joe, his younger brother. Joe, unlike Zack, did not follow in his father's footsteps. He is not a policeman, but a noodle deliverer. Moreover, he does not seem to have inherited the courage that his brother can show. We quickly realize that Joe is more of a running away. During his run to deliver the noodles, he comes across several unsavory people. And rather than fighting, or helping other people in need, our young person prefers to take his legs to his neck, even if it means being fired by his boss. How do we survive in a cruel world, when we are afraid to fight?
As stated in the title, this first volume is action-packed! Chases, beatings, shootings, boxing matches, … You will be able to witness many explosive scenes. And all with very good quality graphics. Indeed, the author, ZD, has an excellent pencil stroke. In particular, he brilliantly transcribes the emotions of the characters. Whether it's sadness, hatred or fear, we recognize without problems what the characters may feel. The drawings are powerful, especially when our characters are full of anger! The action scenes are also very well represented.
Powers to come?
But that's not all! Indeed, in addition to being able to attend many muscular scenes, it seems that super-powers are making their appearance. During a sibling trip to the family cottage, Zack and Joe did a little boxing session. For the occasion, they brought out the cap and gloves that once belonged to their father. Following an incident during this trip, our two brothers quickly realized that these objects, having an immense sentimental value, could also allow them to acquire new abilities.
Increased agility, tenfold strength, better concentration, … Here are some examples of our two brothers' new abilities. But one question remains, what will they do now? Will they use their new powers for the common good, cleaning the streets of all the chaos there, or will they take revenge for all the humiliation and injustice they have suffered?
The first volume ends in a very mysterious way. Like our two young protagonists, we don't know exactly what it's all about, but what we do know is that we can't wait to discover the rest of their adventures!
