A few days before the first event dedicated to the announcement of the first games on PS5, which will be broadcast on Thursday, June 4 at 10 pm, the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment shows great confidence about the launch of the console. 38 games have already been unveiled because of a recent leak. Some releases are even confirmed.
PS5 expected to be released in 2020 around the world
Jim Ryan announced that despite the global health crisis, factories have indeed started assembling the first PlayStation 5 pallets. He also said that this production will only accelerate throughout the summer.
The CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment told the Financial Times : "People are quite surprised, but we are on schedule. We believe we will have enough quantity to ensure a global launch."
Jim Ryan still had to get used to this unusual time. Indeed, engineers had to use the videos to supervise the construction of Chinese prototypes and production lines. It was impossible for them to travel to China. Other engineers had to integrate the console's codebase and interface while working from home.
Jim Ryan reassures everyone about the launch of the PS5: "We feel that, not only us, but also our publisher partners, everyone seems to be on schedule to release these games before the holiday season."
PlayStation still on top despite the pandemic
According to CNet, we learn that downloading free games during the confinement was very important. Indeed, Journey and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection have been downloaded by more than 10 million players. After reaching 103 million active users last December, PlayStation Network has seen an even more impressive spike in activity in recent weeks. Another positive statistic, pre-orders for The Last of Us Part II in Europe are currently higher than those for Marvel's Spider-Man at the same stage. Jim Ryan took the opportunity to confirm that Naughty Dog's game will work without problems on PS5. Nevertheless, all gamers are waiting to learn more about optimizing backward compatible games.
