The band from Angers, Jumaï, will soon release a second EP, Silent Blue Day which confirms the test and suggests good days for this psyche and evanescent formation.
They are 4: Elliot, Océane, Jérémy and Josselin. Hidden in their bunker, a concrete tank rehabilitated in a recording studio, it is on "L'île d'Amour" in Angers, that Jumaï gave birth to this second EP. It succeeds a first eponymous opus.
Their influences are between Suuns, Mogwai or Fever Ray, a joyful mix that is easily found in their way of writing and playing music, whether through experimentation or the dark and mystical atmosphere that haunts Jumaï's songs.
Silent Blue Day by Jumai
Throbbing and raw, the EP begins with Loneliness. Born around a sound discovered by their drummer, this is the title that we made you discover in preview with a licked aquatic clip. In the EP, this song is in long version and we can enjoy a longer instrumental part. A small kiffe of 45 sec more; Let's have fun!
With its heavy bass, airy voice and chaotic guitar, this title alone defines Jumaï's style. Psychedelic rock written as an exercise in shoegaze style with a sober and powerful composition at the same time.
On the bluesy side for Lock, the second track of this EP. With these oldy rock accents, its voice-over and its lyrical flights, it is the most amazing song. Surprising even in the text with feminist evocations, the arpeggiated chords flirt with a rockabilly atmosphere.
A rock ballad, light and voluble, Him is a luminous pause in the darkness of this Silent Blue Day. The voice is velvet and relies on a deeper timbre on the chorus. We love the instrumental interlude that takes in intensity and comes ferociously scratching before letting the voices conclude smoothly.
It is with Spectro that the band ends this EP. Enigmatic, it begins with disturbing sirens. The change in tone makes it a strange and changing title. We dance between something nostalgic and present. The guitar accentuates this atmosphere both muted and … fourth dimension. The music rises in power to finish with the sounds of scratched strings and high-pitched vibrations. Great success!
An assertive musical identity and compositions that are good for the ears; we rarely have the opportunity to hear this style of music on the airwaves and we hope that this second EP opens new doors for Jumaï that would lead them to an album…
Jumaï will be on October 11 at the Alter Café in Nantes, on October 26 at Joker's Pub and on November 23 at the Colisée in Angers.
We keep abreast of their news and we will not fail to give you other dates when they arise.
