We hear about it every year, it comes back like an old challenge: the Movember. It is one of those challenges that accompanies a month, such as tobacco-free month or health challenge month in Quebec. The Movember is certainly the most important of all. Let me show you all its aspects.
First of all a bit of history
The Movember is Australian. It was invented in Adelaide and was soon picked up around the world. The goal? First of all, laughter but also draw attention to male diseases. Prostate cancer is the first target. The Movember will be repeated all over the world becoming an international success.
An everyday challenge
The Movember is a challenge for participants. They must indeed maintain this mustache, let it grow, magnify it for a whole month or more for some. In addition, wearing a mustache in 2021 may seem outdated and even ridiculous. In any case, terribly overwhelmed… Let's be clear, today we see many more men wearing beards than mustaches alone. Moreover, the Movember involves rules such as not to grow anything other than the mustache. No goat, no beard or even a rouflaquette to make the challenge fulfilled. Assuming such a look with the people around them can sometimes be complicated. This is why support is often essential for participants.
A movement that benefits everyone
We can observe through advertising, social networks, a questioning of the codes of masculinity. The old archetypes are no longer fashionable or represent our current society. A society where it is sometimes complicated to find yourself with a different physique.
A mustache to find yourself
The Movember actually offers a way out, a possibility to feel better in your body by having the impression (rightly) of fulfilling a promising goal, that of giving of one's person for the fight against a cancer that affects so many people around the world: prostate cancer. While breast cancer can sometimes affect men, prostate cancer is typically male and can develop in different contexts. Even if this cancer is exclusively male, it impacts the lives of men of course, but also that of the women who accompany them.
A healthy mind in a healthy body
This quote from Juvenal has never been so topical, feeling good about yourself today is essential. In today's world, relationships are for the most part, essentially based on the image that one reflects of oneself, physical and mental. And then came this questioning of the codes of masculinity, society evolves, our values and our looks change, our inspirations follow a current. The idea of what a man was and what he should look like is no longer the same. Feeling good in body, mind and in tune with your time and values is a challenge at all times. To help this, several solutions exist or rather coexist.
A solution for the mind above all
One of them is of course cosmetic surgery. It makes it possible to make real transformations on parts of the body that sport can not reach. It allows beyond that, to change the perception that we have of ourselves and therefore the perception that others have of us. It also allows us to feel good in our body and to show ourselves to the world in a new and more acceptable light to our own eyes.
A mustache for everyone
The mustache is also a matter of hairiness. Each man will have a different mustache than his neighbor's mustache. It may even be a little frustrating at first, to see that it is the whiskers of others that you like more than your own, but it is a strong way to affirm your identity, to affirm who you are, to affirm how you relate to the world. The Movember has a lot to offer the men who participate. Self-confidence above all, conviviality, mutual aid and of course a spirit of frank camaraderie and humor. For a good cause, let's assume a little touch of ridicule but not too much, although… . The main thing is to do everything possible to help the search for a cancer that is not talked about very often. If you are interested in the project, make an appointment for next year!
