This Friday, December 11, 2020 was particularly fruitful in terms of musical productions. Indeed, the multi-talented singer-songwriter and singer, Dodie and the innovative London electro-punk band Otzeki each shared their new single, Rainbow and Max Wells-Demon respectively. Two musical styles and two completely different artistic universes, but which come together by their passion for music and their tendency to make an avant-garde musical proposal in their own way.

The Swiss Army knife, dodie

But who is dodied?

If you didn't know her, the dodie artist with a lowercase d, real name Dorothy Miranda Clark, originally from Epping, UK, first became known for her covers and original compositions published on her main YouTube channel (@doddleoddle). Her first video, posted on April 14, 2011, is music written by the artist herself entitled Rain. With her soft voice, crystalline timbre and ability to play several instruments including ukulele and piano with which she accompanies herself in her videos, dodie has managed over the years to arouse interest and create a community that now has nearly 1.95 million subscribers on her YouTube channel. In 2016, she released her first self-produced EP: Intertwined ("intertwined" in French) which represents the consecration of her dream as a musician intertwined with all these achievements since the beginning of her career on YouTube. It is an intimate EP in which the artist gives himself a lot about herself. The following year, in 2017, dodie released his second EP: You. In this EP, the artist opens up about love, sexuality in all its simplicity and complexity and personal problems that impact his daily life. Finally, on January 18, 2019, she offers her fans her third EP: Human. Dodie has always been familiar with the music scene having participated in numerous concerts in her hometown and around the world. In 2014, she joined singer Bry for his tour in the United Kingdom and then in New Zealand and Australia. In addition, she performed in the UK for her EP Intertwined in 2017 and toured Europe for her EP You in 2018. Through YouTube, dodie has a very special and sincere relationship with its audience. It is a relationship that is more intimate and personal. Indeed, on her various channels, she speaks frankly and spontaneously about topics such as love, friendship, mental health, nostalgia and sexuality, and her spiritual ideas in general. Her honesty and sincerity really make her charm and allow her to have a community that supports her and that gives her back the trust she places in them. The musical style of dodie is quite simple, without artifice either in the arrangements as in his voice. She often employs melodic musicality with simple and not superfluous arrangements. Accompanied in her interpretations, her soft and warm voice that charms the one who hears her who takes her into her universe.   dodie Discoveries: the new singles of dodie and Otzeki between sweetness and electro

Otzeki: the avant-garde London band

But who is Otzeki?

With Mike Sharp on vocals, guitar and lyrics and Joel Roberts, keyboards and arrangements, this duo of London musicians form the band Otzeki. Otzeki is a mixture of universes, a mixture of emotions. It is a meeting point between different genres that cling, intertwine and leave each other in a neat electronic and punk symbiosis. The two artists manage to make the bodies move on captivating rhythms that mix electro, rock, Indie-pop, dream pop in a particularly intense atmosphere. It was in 2016 that the British duo released their first EP: Falling out and their second in 2017: Sun is Rising. Then, in 2018, they released their first album: Binary Childhood. In addition, the band also performs extensively live and they have gone so far as to perform internationally. It offers a powerful, dark, energetic experience where both musicians as well as their audience are galvanized by the musical performance. Although lyrics do not occupy the main place in Otzeki's musicality, it does not have a superficial place. Like the period of the emergence of the electro genre, the aim and meaning of their lyrics are engaged. Marked by the context of the current United Kingdom, notably by Brexit, the two artists express their disillusionment with a complex political situation that tends towards individualization and distance from the other. Mike's voice sublimates the electronic and stretched rhythms that characterize their music.   23172394 2028006804147785 5153968630561231900 n Discoveries: the new singles of dodie and Otzeki between sweetness and electro

Max Wells-Demon – Otzeki

This weekend, December 11, 2020, the official music video for Otzeki's latest single, Max-Weels-Demon was released on Akira Records. Two years after their first album, the duo Otzeki returns with a new single, from their second album, Now is a Long Time, which should be released on March 19 on Akira Record, again. The almost eight-minute track begins with a catchy rhythm supported by an elegant bass line. Mike's mysterious and penetrating voice accompanies the track. The clip is intriguing. Immersed in the dark night, illuminated only by the headlights of the cars and by a powerful lamp of white light, the two artists in costumes indulge in delivering their captivating electronic performance in the middle of nature like a modernized ritual in a very cinematic 2:35 format. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8dYVsmcJxI Two different and equally sensitive universes in which you should not hesitate to dive head first!
