For fans of the first hour or teenagers a little in the moon, this exhibition represents "50 years of fanmania" about the immense David Bowie, world icon with a thousand faces. For the moment closed due to restrictions related to the health crisis, the Palace Theater plans to open this exhibition to the public as soon as possible, an exhibition that Just Focus has already been able to see this fall during a press opening. So, let's go to the stars!
Is there life on théâtre du Palace ?
The Palace Theatre seems to be the most suitable place to host such an exhibition on the much missed David Bowie, champion of originality and cosmic vagabond. A true meeting place for all the strange in the 70s, the Palace has given pride of place to Warhol, Yves Saint Laurent, Prince, Mick Jagger, Serge Gainsbourg and Roland Barthes. Between these four Art Deco walls, a Bowie with enigmatic accents now resonates, telling us about this man who sold the world. At the exhibition, only delighted and amazed smiles in front of this mythical room in the Faubourg Montmartre specially designed to match the artist's career, from his beginnings to the release of his latest album Black Star (January 2016). Jukeboxes are set up at the front of the room to fully immerse themselves in the hair-raising world of the one who mocked gender and insisted on telling the story of a youth in search of identity. The spectator quickly finds himself in a crowd of fans and is amazed at the precise knowledge of each other on the life and work of the English genius.
But what does this exhibition offer us in particular?
It brings together more than 1,000 pieces around David Bowie, often extremely rare and from private collections whose owners are fans who have built this empire of leftover decades, with passion and patience. You can find everything! Records, vinyls, sheet music, goodies, vintage concert tickets, posters etc. Present on site, the collection of Jean Charles Gautier, certainly the richest in the world. "50 years of fanmania" corresponds perfectly to the research work of this man who has scoured the world for many decades in search of any object related to the brilliant Bowie: press photos, records or the birth certificate of the star. This exhibition had already been presented, in a somewhat different version, in Saint-Etienne in autumn 2018. The Palace, a good haunt of underground culture, highlights the one who continues to impress the younger generations. As a true Bowie fan, be sure to come and discover his treasures, his very moving treasures!
