Flash was to be adapted into a film under the direction of Seth Grahame-Smith. The latter having left the ship, Warner looked for a replacement and decided on Rick Famuyiwa.
Rick Famuyiwa became known to the general public last year with his film Dope, a foray into 1990s Los Angeles. An unexpected choice of Warner and DC Comics, choosing a director and an actor, Ezra Miller, virtually unknown to the general public. Flash seems to be the movie of the underdogs when Wonder Woman, Batman or Justice League are entrusted to renowned filmmakers. Seth Grahame-Smith left the project for different artists according to the official version. The young artist has not yet directed any film, but has a career as a prolific screenwriter behind him, including Dark Shadows or Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. This abandonment is a godsend for Rick Famuyiwa who will be able to demonstrate his talent on a project of this scale and break through with the general public.
As a reminder, the actor who will play Flash on the big screen, Ezra Miller, is not the same as the actor who wears the costume in the TV series: Grant Gustin. A desire of Warner to create a real break between the television series and the film, to demonstrate that these two adaptations will evolve in different universes, and that there is no link between the two.The Flash movie is set to be released in March 2018, meaning filming won't begin until next year. The synopsis and the rest of the cast remain unknown, but it is highly likely that other costumed heroes will make some appearances in the film.In the meantime you can still catch a glimpse of Flash in Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman.
