David Thewlis had been announced to the cast of the next film Wonder Woman by Patty Jenkins, but without knowing until then what his real role would be.
It's official David Thewlis will play the big bad Ares, God of War. This was announced by the site Batman News, often very well informed on the subject. It is known that this vile character is responsible for the death of Wonder Woman's father, Zeus, and that he enslaved the Amazons until they finally revolted and fled to the island of Themyscira. Ares would therefore aim to concoct a gas formula that would put an end to humanity.
The official synopsis of Wonder Woman reads: "Before she was Wonder Woman, her name was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. She was raised on an isolated and paradisiacal island. But when an American pilot crashes into their shore and announces that a full-scale conflict is raging around the world, Diana leaves her home, convinced that she must stop this threat. Fighting alongside this man and his family to end this war and all wars, Diana discovers her true powers… And his true destiny."
The film will be released on June 7 with Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman) and Chris Pine (Star Trek) in the lead roles.
