The most prestigious film festival has just announced the composition of its jury 3 weeks before the start of the competition. For its 70th edition, the organizer of the festival maintains equality and diversity in its jury which will be chaired by Pedro Almodovar.
A few days after the announcement of the official selection of films, we know the 9 craftsmen of the 7th art who will be responsible for awarding the prizes during the closing ceremony on May 28th.
Here are the members who will represent 7 countries with their president:
- Maren Ade (Germany): Director of Toni Erdmann, the press favourite film here last year.
- Jessica Chastain (USA): the interpreter of Miss Slone (still in theaters) and most beautiful redhead in the world had contributed to the success of The tree of life by T.Mallick won the Palme d'Or in 2011. We had the chance to meet her last year in the corridors of the festival palace on the occasion of the opening ceremony (photo below).
- Fan Bingbing (China): The beautiful actress, star in her country, is known to the general public for her role as blink in X-men: days of future past. In China, she is also a producer of her series and a singer.
- Agnes Jaoui (France): Actress, director, screenwriter and producer in film and theatre. The companion of Jean-Pierre Bacri is placed as one of the best specialist in a jury, she, rewarded many times at the César and Cannes in 2008 with the prize for best Screenplay (Comme une image). An air of Family, Cooking and dependence, the taste of others are great classics that forge his career.
- Park Chan Wook (South Korea): author of the famous Oldboy awarded at Cannes in 2003 by the grand prize, and again in 2013 with the jury prize for Thirst, this is my blood. The Korean director returns to the Croisette after Mademoiselle in competition in 2016.
- Will Smith (USA): No need to introduce THE star of this jury, who started in the sitcom The Prince of Bel Air and already has a monumental career at not even 50 years old.
- Paolo Sorrentino: The Italian director recently distinguished himself with Youth. Jury Prize in 2008 with Il Divo, and author of La grande Bellezza which won several international awards. With 7 participations in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival, we can say that he will be at home from May 17 to 28.
- Gabriel Yared (France): The other Frenchman on the jury is a renowned composer of Lebanese origin. Godard, Annaud, Minghella, Beneix were the ones for whom he composed. He knows well this event in which his music resonated for the last time in 2016 in Just the End of the World by Xavier Dolan.
