The second cycle of the adventures of our heroes began in volume 4. It is called "The Mysterious Islands" and will take place until volume 6. After the adventures of the Jules Verne trophy, Noémie and Emilien took advantage of a lull to think about the various events concerning the Third Axis. They find themselves in this volume 5 after their escape from Alcatraz, lost in the middle of a Pacific island.
We appreciate the notable success of the saga "The Extraordinary Journey" which achieves excellent sales figures despite the increased competition of comics and manga. As of May 2017, the series had sold more than 120,000 copies. It is also a critical success with the media since it won the audience award by France 3 and the Actua SF graphic award in 2016.
The extraordinary journey takes us to the 4 corners of the globe:
The Italian artist is certainly one of the driving forces of this work. he was able to depict with a certain dexterity the urban worlds of London and San Francisco, and he managed to captivate us once again in a radically different context, the Pacific islands.
The vegetation represented in this volume is full of interesting elements, nothing seems to be left to chance. The aquatic fauna is perfectly transcribed, we are fully immersed in the atypical universe of this new adventure. Silvio Camboni's work is just as successful when he stages the atypical creatures imagined by Filippi in his script.
What about the colors of Gaspard Yvan supported by Valérie Martineau? They perfectly match the type of environment chosen. This is true in the boards where you can admire the richness and vigor of the vegetation.
A particularly rhythmic scenario
Steampunk is a genre apart, halfway between science fiction and fantasy. One would have thought that this fifth volume would leave aside this register since our joyful troupe finds itself immersed in the wilderness. This is not the case since a mysterious robot will come to sow trouble.
Adventure remains the key word since Noémie and Emilien never stop exploring these mysterious islands alongside the German spy. we see all the mastery of Filippi since he distills in the manner of a showrunner of a television series some elements of his main plot while inserting new tracks that may frustrate some fans. Anyway, our trio works well and we begin to fully enjoy this new part of their history.
The entire saga is available from the publisher Vents d'Ouest (Glénat).
