Pearl of downtempo electro born on SoundCloud, the producer n u a g e s is too little known, while we all need a little more beauty in this world.
Far too many artists are only known for one music, and then fall back into oblivion. n u a g e s is the exact opposite. Indeed, this British producer started in 2012, and is building little by little, taking his time. Far from marketing strategies, he is one of the far too rare artists, who are cherished and blessed to exist.
Mysterious, silent, in the shadows. So much so that few people around him know about his project. Yet his music is unlike any other, and adjectives are lacking to describe it.
N u a g e s is a beautiful lo-fi electro, downtempo with discreet hip hop beats. The melodies are melancholic and the voices reverberated. Just look at the sublime and atmospheric Closer. The kind of ambient to listen to at 2am, when thoughts are invasive and threatening. And yet, as the headlines soothe, it feels strange that something is about to happen.
Apart from that, the music of n u a g e s deserves to be listened to fully. As he said in a rare interview for Stereofox a few months ago:
"At that moment, you are able to experience the music without distractions, without it being simply the soundtrack of everything you are doing. It allows you to think and really feel what you're listening to. I guess most of my songs were made with this introspective mental state in mind."
The magic of loops
At the heart of each piece is a loop, "loop" in French, which will be repeated. Then, layer by layer, percussion, beats, melodies and more organic sounds are added and merged. It is from this simple loop that will flow all the sensations of the piece.
Closer is reminiscent of the sweet songs that are sung to children to ward off monsters. And for good reason: the loop comes from the title Igloo by Karen O., composed for the soundtrack of Max and the Maximonstres. In the same way, on Shadows, we find the dark atmosphere of the song Love by Daughter. A bit philosophical is an excerpt from the poem What If You Could Control Your Dream, by Alan Watts, which is at the heart of the majestic Dreams.
For n u a g e s, vocals are an instrument, a layer that blends harmoniously with others. Although there is very little lyrics on his tracks, the sensitive and airy voice of Icelandic Bijou accompanies Faded. A hypnotic title, full of sweetness.
We can follow a real progression as the titles progress. Indeed, for him, producing is a hobby to decompress. Between each track, he tries to learn a new technique, which he will use in the next piece. Yes, each of his music is really unique, and that's why we love him with love.
