The satirical film about the world of rap battles has finally found a production company, Bodied will be distributed by YouTube RED. The streaming giant will give a release date sometime in 2018.
After winning the Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival in the Midnight Madness category (horror, action or controversial), Bodied had not found a production company. "Most major retailers didn't understand that," director Joseph Kahn told Vulture last November: "I heard that Netflix didn't like the way my main character wasn't really a main character, which is the whole point of the film! I was offered to stop with rap, to make this character more sympathetic. That will never happen as long as I'm in charge. But we are about to make a deal. »
The film tells the story of Adam Merkin (played by Calum Worthy) a young progressive student who decides to write his dissertation on the world of rap battles. He was a huge success and revolutionized the underground hip-hop scene in Oakland.
This is the director's third short film, but he is well acquainted with the musical universe. He has already directed music videos for many artists like DMX, Muse, Ice Cube, U2, Snoop Dog and of course Eminem.
The provocative comedy brings to its cast big names of American battle such as Dizaster, Daylyt, Loaded Lux, Charlamagne Tha God or Kid Twist. YouTube RED first plans to screen the film in theaters and then on its streaming site. Unfortunately, we must expect a screening in small rooms and hope that French theaters are planned. We must also not forget that YouTube RED has not yet arrived in France, we hope to be one of the ten countries in which the platform will be available in 2018.
Case to follow closely! In the meantime you will find the trailer of Bodied below!
