A fairy tale

(risk of spoiler)

Legend of the Blue SeaThe story takes us to two characters whose destiny binds them in order to go through all kinds of trials. The young Se-Hwa is an extraordinary being since she is none other than a mermaid living in the ocean. Here she is captured by sinners and kept prisoner in a world she does not know very well. This was without counting on the unexpected presence of Dam Ryung who upon discovering it thinks only of helping him by almost forgetting his work as a magistrate. In this fairytale past, we quickly get caught up in the game and we quickly want to know what will happen to our two heroes.

As a result, we find ourselves having to navigate between present and past since Heo Joon-Jae seems to have a connection with the official Dam Ryung (in addition to resembling him like two drops of water). Moreover, although not knowing each other, the alchemy and memories of this life with a common past will allow a rapprochement between Sim Chung and Heo Joon-Jae. Our mermaid is therefore not at the end of his troubles but his love for this man encourages him to make the right decisions. Love is the big highlight of this drama, which, while being quite classic, also hides mysteries and manipulations revealed in a skillful way.

Time travel

Legend of the Blue SeaIn this universe centered on an extraordinary love story, we also have destiny that plays surprising tricks on the entourage of our couple. Indeed, if they have been reincarnated several centuries later, there is necessarily eel under rock and we can ask ourselves a question: are they the only ones in this case? Moreover, the whole concept of the story revolves around this back and forth between past and present that continues to play the protagonists. Moreover, the dreams that Heo Joon-Jae has are not trivial and become an obsession for him navigating between two worlds. Sim Chung also shares this kind of vision but her problem remains whether she will be able to stay by her lover's side. In short, and in order not to get bogged down in a drama too marshmallow, we are also entitled to antagonists who do not shrink from any sacrifice to achieve their goals.

Let us quote Ma Dae-Young who once again is excellent in this role of criminal manipulated and tortured by his old life and oh so miserable. Heo Chi-Hyun the half-brother of Joon-Jae is not left either with his character of son in need of maternal love who does not know the difference between good and evil, so much it is incubated by his mother. Moreover, mother Kang Seo-Hee is unspeakably cruel. As for the rest of the cast, it remains sympathetic without doing too much!

Love & destiny

Legend of the Blue SeaIn the end the plot keeps its promises by offering us a beautiful romance, revelations and trials that serve to evolve the couple towards a future that was initially uncertain. In the end, it is faithful to what makes the success of fantasy romances since we quickly get attached to Sim Chung and Heo Joon-Jae while feeling the chemistry they release. In addition, the mystery around the past of our couple keeps us in suspense especially when we appreciate the sageuk (historical); almost pushing us to want more about this version of the story. However, on this side we are a little disappointed that the memories end up being repetitive once everything is over.

However, we do not forget the funny, moving and stressful moments that come to bring interesting changes of atmosphere. On the other hand, the reaction of Joon-Jae's father is far from consistent, although it is understandable. In conclusion, the pace and story will appeal to those who love fantasy and romance. However, the last two episodes do not bring much except to make the viewers languish on a happy ending version.

Lovers of romance, fantasy and mysterious plot Legend of the Blue Sea should interest you, since the story takes us between past and present along the water! The K-Drama is available via the Viki website.
