The Sword Art Online saga is once again in the news with the release of new information about the production of a live film! But where is the film really at?

The production of a live action film Sword Art Online was announced in 2016 and since then, no news has been given. We now learn a little more since producer Laeta Kalogridis (Altered Carbon) has stated that she has sold the rights to the adaptation to Netflix. Once again, the gigantic video-on-demand site recovers the rights to adaptations of a Japanese series. We remind you that the latest is the live action film Death Note, whose quality was not unanimous.

This time, the actors playing the main characters will be Asian. This is one of the conditions imposed by the producer on the video giant. So this time there will be no "whitewasher".

Synopsis of season 1 of the anime:

In 2022, humanity has succeeded in creating a virtual reality. Thanks to a headset, humans can fully immerse themselves in the virtual world while being disconnected from reality, and Sword Art Online is the first MMORPG to use this system. But now, on the first day of play, 10,000 people find themselves trapped in this virtual reality by its creator: Akihiko Kayaba. The only way out is to finish the game. But it will not be easy to get out of this virtual world since if a player loses the game, he also dies in real life.

Kirito then decides to conquer the game solo, with the advantage of being part of the 1,000 ex-beta testers, but will he be able to complete the 99 dungeons and their bosses?

"Even though it sounds like a video game, it's not a game" Akihiko Kayaba – Creator of "Sword Art Online"

The original series is a light-novel currently composed of 5 volumes released only in Japan. The saga was then adapted into manga, Sword Art Online – Aincrad finished in 2 volumes, Sword Art Online – Fairy Dance finished in 3 volumes and Sword Art Online – Progressive which currently has 6 volumes.

An animated version is also available. The latter consists of two seasons of 25 and 24 episodes each available on the legal streaming platform Wakanim and the video-on-demand platform Netflix. A film was also released last winter, Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale.
