Currently on tour with LA to the Moon, American singer Lana Del Rey unveils, between two concerts, a graceful revisit of an iconic Madonna song: You Must Love Me. And its sensuality is worth the detour…
A haunting cover of a pop icon, by a pop icon
In this month of March 2018, the sweet Lana Del Rey delivers a new singular version of the title You Must Love Me, initially interpreted by Madonna. This work was composed in 1996 by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, for the famous musical Evita. It was also voted " Best Original Song" at the Oscars the following year.
This track will appear on the compilation Unmasked: The Platinum Collection, an album gathering the classics of Andrew Lloyd Webber's repertoire, to whom we owe the musicals Cats, Phantom of the Opera or Sunset Boulevard. It is he himself who is at the origin of this new project. For the occasion, he called on the singer, who opted for a sensual cover of You Must Love Me. A soaring version that exudes a gripping and captivating sweetness. She links her delicious velvet voice to the piano and offers a simple but very successful version.
However, Lana Del Rey is not the only one to have put her voice on a title of the famous composer. Indeed, the compilation of 71 songs arranged on 4 CDs, will also host the voices of Madonna on Another Suitcase in Another Hall, or Nicole Scherzinger reinterpreting the immense Memory.
In addition to having proposed this revisit of Madonna's title, Lana Del Rey is working on a brand new project that she will unveil in the coming years. It will be a new musical that should see the light of day on the boards of Braodway.
You Must Love Me, haute couture…
Note that the album Unmasked, which features this cover of You Must Love Me, will be available in stores from March 16.
