After Emily Atack and Almost Married, British director Ben Cookson is preparing to shoot his next feature film Waiting for Anya, in the Aspe Valley in France.

Based on a children's novel

Until April 19, Ben Cookson and his team will settle in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques to capture the images of the next film produced by Bad Penny Productions and Goldfinch Studios. This feature film is an adaptation of the novel Anya written by Michael Morpurgo (War Horse) and published in 1990, whose story takes place during the Second World War. Jo is a shepherd, living in Lescun, a village occupied by the Germans. One day, in a mountain farm, the young man discovers several Jewish children in hiding. Jo, a very protective boy, will help these young people cross the Spanish border to try to escape the Nazis. A scenario signed Toby Torlesse that promises to be moving and of great humanity.

But to do so, Ben Cookson called on some big names in cinema to interpret these characters. According to the Republic of the Pyrenees, the young shepherd and hero of this film will be played by Noah Schnapp, a 13-year-old actor discovered in the famous Netflix series, Stranger Things. The latter will be accompanied by Elsa Zylberstein, who will play his mother in the film. The inevitable Jean Reno (Nikita, the Big Blue) will also be part of the party by putting himself in the shoes of his grandfather. Ben Cookson will also be able to count on the German Thomas Kretschmann (The Pianist), Anjelica Huston (Captain EO) or Tómas Lemarquis, the Icelandic actor of X-Men: Apocalypse, who will all be present.
