Adaptation of the children's novel Les Insoumis, Darkest Minds – Rebellion is revealed in an intriguing trailer.
Synopsis: Children and adolescents have almost all disappeared from the face of the Earth. The survivors alone have developed uncontrollable faculties that are beyond comprehension. The government then decided to lock them up in order to stem the threat. But when Ruby, one of the most powerful youths in the camp, manages to escape to join a group of resistance fighters, things get out of hand in this world where adults are not on the side of young people.
Darkest Minds – Rebellion is adapted from the work of Alexandra Bracken and was directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2 & 3). The latter stated:
"I was transcended by the emotional power of the story. This is what makes the book so strong, so cult from its first reading. The characters are painted with great intelligence and show incredible courage despite their young age."
We can note with pleasure that this work is with strong feminine connotation. We have a female lead character, a female director, a story written by a woman and even Gwendoline Christie in the cast (the most badass woman in Game of Thrones). It is good to find a woman at the helm of a blockbuster of this scale (which we see more and more often). At a time when Hollywood leaves more and more room for women and their words, this kind of film could continue to change mentalities (just as Wonder Woman had begun to think about the representation of women on the big screen).
If Darkest Minds – Rebellion promises to be yet another adaptation of a children's novel, it is reassuring to know that Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) is producing. It remains to be seen how this work will be treated on screen by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and if the public will be there. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer without moderation.
