After a year 2017 where we followed closely the Champs-Elysées Film Festival, we are back as we approach the 2018 edition! Taking place on the most beautiful avenue in the world, this still young event is an unmissable event for independent cinema lovers. Focus!

The Champs-Élysées Film Festival, created by producer, distributor and exhibitor Sophie Dulac, presents its seventh edition in 2018. It will be held from June 12 to 19 and will allow us to discover, as usual, a finely chosen selection of French and American independent films. Sophie Dulac does not hide her ambition for this Festival, which she wishes to see become for the public:

"A revelation of the talents of French and American independent cinema: this is the watchword of this seventh edition placed under the sign of change, the requirement and the affirmation of the identity of the festival."

In short, there is talent in the air and it is not the excellent selection of the year 2017 that will say otherwise. As a reminder, we had the opportunity to discover films such as Young Woman, Merrick or The Strange Ones, all as excellent as each other.

Previews:

And yes, it's not just independent films that are presented at festivals. We will of course find previews, some of which in the presence of the film team. On the program we will have:

  • C'est qui cette fille by Nathan Silver, on Thursday, June 14 at 8:30 pm at Publicis Cinémas and Monday, June 18 at 7 pm at UGC George-V, in the presence of the film team.
  • Unsane by Steven Soderbergh, Friday, June 15 at 9:30 pm at UGC George-V.
  • Piercing by Nicolas Pesce, Saturday, June 16 at 10pm at UGC George-V.
  • Come as you are by Desiree Akhaven, Monday, June 18 at 9pm at Publicis Cinémas, in the presence of Chloë Grace Moretz and the director.

Guests of honor and Masterclass:

Beyond the films presented, guests of honor will mingle with festival-goers to the delight of moviegoers. We will be able to find:

Tim Roth
  • Tim Roth tops the list of guests of honor. Famous for the series Lie To Me, Roth has a most eclectic filmography, where independent cinema rubs shoulders with blockbusters (such as the Hulk of the MCU). The actor will give a Masterclass on June 15 at 7:30 pm at Publicis Cinémas, while the Festival will offer a retrospective of his films.
  • Jennifer Jason Leight, actress with a busy career (The Dirty Eight, Existenz…), will also give a Masterclass on June 17 at 3:30 pm at Publicis Cinémas.
  • John Cameron Mitchell, director, will give a Masterclass on June 13 at 6pm at Publicis Cinémas.
  • David and Nathan Zellner, both directors, will give a Masterclass on June 16 at 5:30 pm at the Lincoln cinema. An unprecedented retrospective of their films will also be offered by the Festival.

Juries:

Who says "Festival", necessarily says "Juries"! The Feature Film Jury will therefore be chaired by Serge Bozon and composed of:

  • Naidra Ayadi, actress and director.
  • Sébastien Betbeder, director.
  • Damien Bonnard, actor.
  • Judith Chemla, actress.
  • Pierre Deladonchamps, actor.
  • Ana Girardot, actress.

The Jury in charge of the 19 French and American short films will be chaired by director Katell Quillévéré, who will be replaced by:

  • Hubert Charuel, director.
  • Esther Garrel, actress.
  • Christophe Taudière, head of France Télévisions' short film division.
  • Arnaud Valois, actor.

It is therefore a whole panel of professionals who will be present during this week of Festival! They will be able to put their experienced eye at the service of this Festival and the promising films that will be screened there.

More than 60 films and about 80 screenings await you at the Champs-Elysées Film Festival 2018. You can enjoy all this selection from June 12 to 19 at Le Balzac cinema, Gaumont Champs-Élysées, Lincoln, Publicis Cinémas and UGC George-V. Happy Festival to all!
