Mulan celebrates her twenty years today! The Disney classic premiered on June 19, 1998. This is an opportunity to discover or rediscover this cult film!

She is one of the heroines who rocked our childhood. Mulan is the 54th animated feature film from Disney Studios and the 36th animated classic. Directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, the film tells the story of Fa Mulan. The young woman is reprobated by the village matchmaker and has shamed her family. When her elderly and unhealthy father is called by his country to take part in the war against the Huns, Mulan decides to disguise herself as a man and join the army in his place. In the military camp, Mulan will have to get used to the company of men and prove her worth to Captain Li Shang. With the help of Mushu, the guardian dragon of the Fa family, Mulan fights the Huns. She saved China and earned the respect of the emperor and Shang.

Mulan, the best Disney?

When it comes to Disney animated films, there is something for everyone. Princesses of all colors, animals of all sizes, demigods, lost children, wacky magicians… How to choose a favorite from such a wide range of choices? The answer is in five letters: MUSHU. A miniature dragon, with a dubious moral sense and a humor to the hair? What could be better? Of course, the script of the film is also impeccable. Children don't want a princess who cleans or sleeps for a hundred years. Children want a warrior who fights prejudice and invaders out of love for her parents. And the best for last: the songs. Who can really refrain from singing when hearing the first notes of "Comme un homme"? The soundtrack of the film has been awarded many times. In 1999, Mulan received two Golden Globes, for Best Original Score (Jerry Goldsmith) and Best Original Song (Matthew Wilder and David Zippel for "Reflection"). The two men also won a Grammy Award for "True to Your Heart" and an Oscar for Best Film Music the same year.

Available on VHS, DVD or even on Netflix, Mulan can be seen and reviewed endlessly. Let's celebrate twenty years of a classic more powerful than hurricanes, more fiery than the fire of volcanoes.
