Kirsten Dunst will be the star of the next series broadcast on the Youtube Premium platform. Entitled On Becoming a God in Central Florida, the series will see the light of day in 2019.
Youtube Premium, formerly Youtube Red, wants to get into the big leagues. To compete with Amazon, Hulu or Netflix, and before Apple decides to join the game, Youtube hits hard. The video platform will broadcast a new series via its paid service in 2019. The series On Becoming a God in Central Florida was originally developed by the American AMC. Youtube picked it up on June 25, 2018. Kirsten Dunst (Jumanji, Shadow Figures, Spider-Man) will star and co-produce. George Clooney (Gravity, In Pursuit of Tomorrow, Ocean's Eleven) also invested in the project as co-producer. The pilot was written by Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky. The series will then be managed by showrunner Esta Spalding.
The American Dream
On Becoming a God in Central Florida is set in the 1990s. The heroine's name is Krystal Gill. She works at a water park in the Orlando, Florida area. Krystal will try to infiltrate a multi-billion dollar financial system, the same system that ruined her family. Krystal (played by Kirsten Dunst) is "a very fierce and determined young woman, tirelessly pursuing the American dream from within.The series is about entrepreneurship and the American dream. On Becoming a God in Central Florida is expected to be a ten-episode black comedy.
With this series, Youtube Premium hopes to have the same success as with Cobra Kaï. The series is inspired by the Karate Kid movies. The first episode of Cobra Kai has been viewed more than 40 million times since it aired on May 2, 2018. The series is already renewed for a season two.
On Becoming a God in Central Florida will be available next year on Youtube Premium. To see the series, you will have to subscribe to the online service of Youtube. We'll see if the platform can make a place for itself alongside giants Amazon and Netflix.
