For us, this Saturday at the Eurockéennes 2018 rhymed with musical discoveries. Because what better than going on stage to see the bands you hear about but don't know much.
We arrive a little late to attend his concert, but the beach is already packed to the brim to welcome IamDDB. The rapper takes her time to finish her set and makes the pleasure last. Heavy bass, flow that flows and titles that easily pass to the public, super enthusiastic. The atmosphere is good!
Caroline Rose
Head to the Loggia to listen to Caroline Rose. Less rock than we thought, his music is more oriented towards acidulous and electrified pop; It squeaks and it's fun, but we don't take as much as we would like. The singer is full of energy and it swings nicely among festival-goers.
Superorganism
If there was a mind-blowing concert to see tonight, it was undoubtedly Superorganism. A real staged show, where everyone has a small role to play including the screen in the background on which videos from Geek culture, gif and completely crossed out images come alive. The singer, Orono, has this jaded but fun air that is part of her character. At the age of 17, she is both mimi and not very expressive. She managed to motivate the audience to create a wave of arms or jump on their songs. In fact, festival-goers are already addicted to their music and have fun with this zany and crazy show. Orono cheers on his band with that same voice half drunk, half awake: "Ok guys! We're doing a good job, I'm proud of you. Let's go with a new title." The choristers come alive and stop like robots lacking drums. In short… Completely unlikely but really great!
Wednesday Campanella
Among the "Alien" of the festival, this year the Eurockéennes invited a Japanese. Ambassador of a colorful J Pop but not watered down, it is a real show that is proposed to us with Wednesday Campanella. But the most surprising thing is that she does it alone on stage. No musicians, no instruments. Just her, KOM_I, and her microphone. Behind, a soundtrack over which she sings; It's a bit karaoke and the stage seems a bit empty. But gradually, a huge floating sheet, inflated, comes to invade the space like a shapeless and moving mass that takes rainbow colors according to the lights. She will take the opportunity to get off stage and take a bath of crowd to the delight of the audience who accompanies her in chorus. Only other intervention, that of a dancer with whom she will play on stage. We appreciate this discrepancy in the programming.
At The Drive-In
Small passage under the marquee of the Greenroom where At The Drive-In has just entered the scene. Already the guitars are screaming and the singer, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, former voice of The Mars Volta, joins the musicians… in a… Not quite clear, shall we say. We do not know what he took, but he is unleashed. He shakes the scenery, falls, gets up while screaming into his microphone. He plays with the cameramen who film for the screens of the festival. The music is violent and messy… what could be more normal for Post-Hardcore. But here we feel that it is a little too much. We do not linger.
Queen Of The Stone Age
Great moment of this Saturday at the Eurockéennes: the return of Josh Homme and his band for the fourth time on the festival. And they have fans, many fans, who have come for them. In front of the big stage, it screams with joy and it jostles nicely. The atmosphere is incredible, the setlist delights the oldest, as well as the youngest. On stage, we feel that the band has just as much desire to party, without limits and sharing as much as possible. There is a great energy that passes with the audience and the Queen Of The Stone Age give it their all. Epic moment of the concert, Josh who interrupts a title address the security guys by reminding them that they are working for him tonight and that the audience has the right to do what it wants. It is not clear what motivated this interruption, but he tells them that a young girl in the front row must be worshipped. We remain surprised and the crowd ignites a little more.
It is on this thunderous concert, after having savored live the best of Queen Of The Stone Age that we head for the exit. The rest and end: Sunday!
