Gaël Faye's first book, Petit Pays, was published in August 2016. This book tells us, through the eyes of a young boy, the genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994. Two populations clashed, the Hutus and the Tutsi. The book is poignant, an adaptation was to be released on March 18 in cinemas. A postponement unfortunately took place following the coronavirus and the lockdown.
Gaël Faye, a versatile artist
Gaël Faye is a Franco-Rwandan author, composer, performer and writer. Born in Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi in 1982, he lived through the civil war in 1993 and the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. In 1995, he fled his country at only 13 years old to settle in France. He turned to writing at a very young age, even before becoming interested in literature. He said it himself in an interview on the show On n'est pas couché with Laurent Ruquier "I started writing a few days before leaving Burundi and I continued arriving in France". In 2009, Gaël Faye released a hip-hop album in duet with Edgar Sekloka in their group Coffee Milk & Sugar. Their first album was released in 2009. Following this, they were named Discoveries in 2011 at the Printemps de Bourges. He continues his career with his first solo album in 2014 named Pili pili on a butter croissant. Ben l'Oncle Soul appears in the song Isimbi. Another title is called Small Country. Through this song, he transmits to us his story in his native land. In 2016, he published a novel inspired by his youth in Burundi. He insists in an interview, it is not an autobiography. Petit Pays won numerous awards, including the Prix Goncourt des lycéens and the Prix du roman Fnac in 2016. This book was so popular with the public that an adaptation was filmed in early 2019. https://www.instagram.com/p/BsnP71lnn2D/
The release date of the adaptation shifted
Eric Barbier is the director of the film Petit Pays. It highlights the book of the same name by Gaël Faye. The story tells the story of a young boy nicknamed Gaby who lives in Burundi. From a French father and a Rwandan mother, he tells us his vision of his native country with a certain innocence, until the day war broke out. The young talent Djibril Vancoppenolle will play little Gabriel. As for Jean-Paule Rouve, he will play Gaby's father. The coronavirus unfortunately affected Gaël Faye and part of the film's team during the promotion. The virus and the lockdown have postponed the film's release date. Scheduled for March 18, it was finally postponed to August 26. A long wait for the readers of the book who were eagerly awaiting its release. https://www.instagram.com/p/B9rvkrUIJPV/
