Once the first man on the Moon in First Man, Ryan Gosling should soon return to the space universe. NASA member? Explorer? We reveal the latest news about this next film.

A duo of renowned directors

Two years ago now, we introduced First Man to you as a "very intimate lunar epic". Damien Chazelle had indeed excelled in the direction of this film both in the realism of the images and in the choice of the cast. Certainly, Ryan Gosling will return to space, but this time, it will not be in a film by Damien Chazelle that he knows so well (Lalaland). Adapted from Andy Weir's novel, Project Hail Mary will be adapted on the big screen soon. At its head, two directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who should not be unknown to you since they directed together The great Lego adventure and especially the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: New Generation. While MGM had just acquired the rights to the novel, Ryan Gosling hastened to propose Lord and Miller to the director of MGM (Michael De Luca) and the president of Universal (Donna Langley). For now, before leaving for the cosmos, Lord and Miller are currently working on a film adaptation of Artemis, a work again based on Andy Weir's novel.

A little taste of déjà vu?

Currently temporarily called Project Hail Mary, the film will tell "the solitary story of an astronaut on a spaceship tasked with saving the planet," according to Variety. So far, it reminds us of the subject of Nolan's film Interstellar where it is also about saving humanity by going up there. As Earth experiences a severe food crisis, a group of explorers embark on an interstellar journey. It's also reminiscent of Matt Demon's solitary epic in Ridley Scott's Alone on Mars. Note that this same film is also based on Andy Weir's novel that inspires so much cinema. Once again, the fate of the planet will depend on only one protagonist. Hopefully there's enough action in his ship to keep us entertained throughout the movie… all without getting too close to the adventures encountered by Matt Damon. But besides, which team will supervise the handsome Ryan? First there will be director Amy Pascal (Venom 2, Dr. March's daughters) as well as Ken Kao (The Favourite, Mid90s), Aditya Sood (Deadpool, Alone on Mars) and of course, writer Andy Weir.

Excited about the project, De Luca and Pamela Abdy (president of the MGM film group) said in a statement: "With their spectacular mastery of drama, action and humor, Phil and Chris are the perfect directors to take the reins of this unique project, and we are very pleased that they are joined by Ryan, Ken, Andy, Aditya and Amy to bring this movie to life. "

For now, we do not know more about this feature film. Its release can be hoped for spring 2021, but let's stay tuned for the next news.
