Since 1981, Woody Allen has been on a rhythm of more than one film per year. Now, on the eve of his 48th film, he is forced to take a break because of accusations of sexual assault against him since the #MeToo movement.

At 82, director Woody Allen is taking a break from his career. The director of many films known to the general public such as Match Point (2005), Blue Jasmine (2013) or Magic in the Moonlight (2014) for the most recent, must put his career aside to get back on his feet.

Since the beginning of the #MeToo movement, things have changed. Indeed, the director has been at the center of several complaints of sexual assault, the most virulent coming from his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. Many of the stars he had the chance to work with, such as Colin Firth, Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Hall, said they regretted their collaborations and stressed that they would not do it again.  A blow for a director who has always worked with good actors. Other artists loyal to Woody Allen's work have expressed doubts about these accusations and have said they will not stop working with him until they are offered any evidence.

However, other sources have suggested that Woody Allen's break is not necessarily due to his reputation but to problems with financial support. His films would not make much money and for years he would have gone from one financier to another all the way to Europe. This pause would be a way for him to take the time to look for new subsidies. However, it seems quite clear that these subsidy cuts are probably not unrelated to his current decline in popularity

Woody Allen takes a break but believe us, the director's career is not over.
