On September 21, Kana's new nugget, Fool's Paradise, was released in French bookstores. Listed in the Dark Kana collection, the four-volume series of Ninjyamu and Misao focuses on the world of Japanese idols in an absolutely chilling way. On the occasion of a launch party organized by the publishing house, in the fabulous bookstore Le Renard Doré, we discovered the deliciously scary universe of a thriller that promises to be talked about!
Sensitive souls abstain!
The first volume of Fool's Paradise, with its Japanese title Gūzō Jihen, immediately caught the eye. A young smiling Japanese idol, microphone in hand, seems to perform on the cover of the manga. However, impossible to take the title for a Shōjo (manga targeting above all young girls). In addition to a particularly dark choice of colors, a disturbing silhouette seems to be waiting for the young idol, while blood stains dot the cover. The tone is set: we are here on a manga for an informed public.

"When worship triggers chaos"
Difficult, for any fan of Japanese culture, to miss the idol phenomenon. These very young artists, propelled on stage since adolescence, are trained in singing, dancing or comedy, but also to sell a perfect image of themselves, constantly reworked by their agencies. Exemplary lifestyles, perfect silhouettes and smiles on the lips must contribute to the dream of many passionate fans.
Often denounced for its excesses, the idol phenomenon finds, in Fool's Paradise, an in-depth and disturbing analysis, which exacerbates the abusive behavior of agencies and fans to better point the finger.
Synopsis
Superidol Sela Hiiragi was seriously injured in a bomb attack. Everyone thinks the perpetrator could be Kazutaka Nichiya, a boy who carried out several bombings a few years earlier, when he was 13 years old.
After this incident, the love that fans feel for Sela gives way to a collective hatred towards the criminal, which gradually upsets Japanese society… (Source: Kana)
Through Fool's Paradise, Misao and Ninjyamu also go beyond the world of Japanese idols, in order to make a broader critique of society, which here, dystopian, undeniably pushes the reader to question.
