Nappily Ever After is one of the new Netflix releases of the week. The film tells the story of Violet, a young woman with a perfect life, professionally and personally. When a hair accident happens, perfection is no longer enough.
A slow and uninteresting scenario
The guiding line of the film is the capillary state of the main character. His haircuts even punctuate the film divided into chapters. The film is like the character's life at the beginning, superficial. The characters are not interesting and do not make you want to be interested in them. First of all, we discover superficial characters who think only of appearances and to achieve perfection. Viewers don't necessarily get into the film and it can even get hard to watch it in its entirety. The dialogues do not enhance the pace of the film.
A flat game
The choice of Sanaa Lathan in the lead role only makes sense for what Violet's character represents: her beauty. The game she gives is tasteless. The viewer has a hard time empathizing with the character when he is supposed to be suffering. It is even possible to feel some annoyance while watching this movie. There is like an impression of "bourgeois malaise" that emerges from all the characters. The only interesting character in the film is Zoe. The viewer wants to see more and see Violet inspired by the little girl. But unfortunately, this does not happen.
Nappily Ever After is clearly a disappointment from start to finish. It is ultimately only what it is on the surface, a far-fetched story. Accustomed to providing better romantic comedies, Netflix will certainly not be talked about with this movie.
