The famous American writer author of It, The Shining, Carrie, Misery and many other literary classics sees one of his works adapted again on the big screen. The setting remains the same: a peaceful-looking story suddenly degenerates into chaos.
A gloomy plot
We have recently seen adaptations from King such as the Croque mitaine or 1922 on Netflix for example. So what will be the plot of Simetierre ? Ever more gloomy, the novel combined with the work of screenwriter Jeff Buhler exposes the arrival of the Creed family in the rural landscapes of Maine. Leaving Boston to lead a new life, Dr. Louis and his wife Rachel discover a dark city where, for centuries, children have buried their favorite pet in a cemetery deep in the woods. Wanting to take an interest in these morbid facts accompanied by their strange neighbor Jud Crandall, they will trigger tragic events. It will then be necessary to face evil forces that will make their home oppressive…On the casting side, Jason Clarke (Planet of the Apes: The Clash) will put himself in the shoes of the doctor and father, accompanied by his wife Rachel played by Amy Seimetz (The Killing). As for Jud Crandall, the unclear neighbor, it is John Lithgow who will enter the scene.
A story that comes from afar
Stephen King sets the tone in his writing and the directors add the tempo on screen: this is the recipe for a successful thriller. What makes King's thrillers unique is the experience of the author behind it. Indeed, in this adaptation of Simetierre, a novel published in 1983, King has already crossed these places and encountered similar elements that undoubtedly influenced his words. In 1978, he taught for a year at the University of Maine. There, his cat Smucky was run over on the nearby road and he was buried in an animal cemetery created by children. And what if Smucky came back from the dead? Although sinister, King adapted this story with a child and transcribed it on paper. Not to be published as a base, the author still owed a book to his former publisher and eventually relented.Thirty-five years later, the book appears a second time on screen. Indeed, this is the second feature film since an adaptation had already been broadcast by Mary Lambert in 1989.
But here, the trailer has been unveiled and we already scare about its release on French screens on May 1, 2019 … the directors, Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch take the viewer by surprise. As proof, the trailer is surrounded by jump-scares jerky by oppressive music. This can be explained by the record of Simetierre' s producers, having already worked on tormenting thrillers; Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers), Mark Vahradian (Red 1 & 2), Steven Schneider (Insidious and Paranormal Activity) and Alexandra Loewy as executive producer.
This treatment looks forward to finding this explosion of agonizing emotions on the big screen. Will you be able to withstand the evil forces from King's pen? In this case, the approach of Halloween can be an opportunity to prepare for it with our top 10 demon movies for Halloween!
