-a-doodle-doo! The Francophonie is still a dream. After abracabrant successes such as those of the superstar Christine and the Queens, the Belgian revelation Angèle or the turbulent members of Thérapie Taxi, here is the singer Dani Terreur came to penetrate our speakers smoothly with Les portes du paradis, a very pleasant and almost unclassifiable first album.
But who is this Dani Terror and what does he tell us?
Revealed with the EP Gri-Gri in 2016, Dani Terreur was already sublimely an artist on the margins. One song in particular foreshadowed a real potential for the future: Amour Chienne. The antagonism of this title already reflected that of the atypical character of Dani Terreur, as charming as Dantesque.
Pure Parisian, Dani Terreur is above all a self-taught musician who cut his teeth in a few groups before going solo. A true pop artist, he oscillates between styles. It is impossible not to feel the brit-pop influences in his compositions, electro in ultra-contemporary arrangements and a beautiful heritage of French song in the lyrics. All sprinkled with various musical influences; An obvious melting pot for this 31-year-old millennial whose talent is an auditory and symbolic enjoyment.
While 10 years ago the new French musical discoveries had banished Molière from their linguistic transmission in favor of Shakespeare, we can only be delighted to see a wave of young talents well anchored in their time who use words with dexterity.
Transi, tormented and passionate lovers, the young singer plays ambiguities to the end by cultivating the approach and the distance to better coax the sensitive listeners and blue flower.
Intensely psychedelic
Dani Tterror's music is also airy. The riffs and long notes follow one another as on Sacred Mountain where his plaintive and suave voice, almost phantasmagorical, makes his music absolutely irresistible. From the first notes of the album with the song Les anonymes, Dani Terreur makes a nod to Blondie's Heart of Glass (and its iconic introduction concocted at the Roland drum machine).
The game of comparisons and influences could go a long way, although we would almost dissect the artist's work. Everything seems so well put together, already heard somewhere without it being pumped elsewhere and seems wildly original. This is what seduces and brings Dani Terreur into the club of new musical representatives 100% pop Made in France, but this time seems straight out of a film completely imaged by Gregg Araki.
