Five years later, it's time to discover new recordings of haunted houses. The level goes up a notch again. And maybe even seven notches in view of the production team that has just gathered for the 7th installment of Paranormal Activity. It all began in 2009 when Oren Peli shook up the horror genre and exploded at the national box office. Using a budget a priori tight, $ 15,000, he launched the "found footage" which brought him $ 193 million. This was the beginning of the war of horror films based on "found recordings". Thus, Oren Peli continues his rise and directs the next five films Paranomal Activity. The first film was a hit in 2009 while the sixth and last Paranormal Activity 5: Ghost Dimension, was released in 2015. In total, the films have grossed more than 890 million dollars worldwide, an impressive profitability considering the micro-budgets invested! Alas, Oren Peli tried to create such a powerful success on his other projects but in vain… Chernobyl Dirais, Area 51 or The River, none had a concept as atypical as that of found footage that seduced the public so much.
And the 7th then?
It seems that Paramount and Blumhouse studios are on the spot! It was at CineEurope that Jim Gianopoulos, the CEO of Paramount Pictures, sold the fuse by explaining that they were starting a partnership " with the super horror producer Jason Blum" for the next edition of the saga. This upcoming production is already making us languish in view of the producer's track record. Insidious 1, 2 and 3, Sinister, American Nightmare, Ouija, Split, Glass, Get Out, Invisible Man etc. In short, a monstrous panoply. To this, Christopher B. Landon also joined the adventure again. Paranomal Activity he knows well! He has already participated as a producer, director and lead writer on the various films of the franchise. Since the last film in 2015 he has focused on other projects that have also met with crazy success such as Happy Death Day (or Happy Birthdead) and The Marked Ones. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the directors of Catfish, but also Paranormal Activity 3 and 4 will also be there.
Although they have decided to arm themselves with the greatest, what does this new film portend?
Currently in development, we have little information… Only the names of the members of the production team are revealed, not the plot. One thing is certain, if the team seems to be the same as that of the last films of the saga, then there is a good chance that the pochain remains faithful to the concept. Maybe they will add novelties for "petrificus totalus" the spectators? For example, the latest episode of Paranormal Activity was the first to be projected in 3D. How far will they raise the bar? In 2015, Jason Blum, the producer of the saga, spoke of the 6th episode as the last where he announced a revelation, an epic finale… Up to the expectations of the public, certainly, but no thunderclap in the world of horror. On the other hand, this episode 7 questions us. Is it the last? Available in 4DX? Could it be the famous "epic finale"? Even if the filming of the sixth and last Paranormal activity 5 Ghost Dimension lasted 45 days, you will still have to wait a little for this seventh opus. See you next year, March 19, 2021!
