The Spanish series Elite by Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona, is back for a third season since March 13 on Netflix. We were looking forward to it and we were not disappointed. Released only 6 months after the broadcast of season 2, the new season of Elite left us speechless. The suspense was at its height and the tension palpable… Maybe even more than in previous seasons. The character of the characters has asserted itself and taboo subjects are still present. In short: we are conquered.

As with the first season, we face the murder of a student of the Spanish high school Las Encinas. We had already experienced the tragedy for Marina and this time it is her murderer who is murdered. Polo (Álvaro Rico), who after this incident has made many enemies, is found lying on the floor of a nightclub after passing through the glass of the first floor. Still on the same logic of the flashbacks of the first two seasons, we trace as the episodes go by what led to this murder. Where the directors were able to captivate us is that all the students had a tooth against Polo… It is therefore impossible to know who the murderer is until you have seen the last episode. The inspector is also there. Although poorly developed, his character makes the connection with the previous investigation. 
Slight disappointment all the same on the side of Christian (Miguel Herrán) and Nano (Jaime Lorente), the characters embodied by the actors of the Casa de Papel do not appear at all during this season. The filming of season 4 of the Casa de Papel taking place in the same period is probably the reason for their absence. Too bad because they brought a touch of humor and lightness to the series. Two new characters appear in this season 3 of Elite : Malick (Leïti Sene) and Yeray (Sergio Momo), who bring real subplots to the season.
An evolution of the characters
In terms of characters, a lot of surprises. Samuel (Itzan Escamilla) who was the main character of previous seasons, is less present in this one. The distribution on screen of each character is more homogeneous. The titles of the episodes also take the names of the most recurrent. 
Unlikely rapprochements have formed this season. First Guzmán (Miguel Bernardeau) and Samuel. They had already come together in the second season to make Polo confess to his murder and this is still the case in this season. But here, their friendship is a real mutual support. Their desire for revenge remains very present but they manage to find a balance and delay each other. Yet nothing brought them to this relationship. In the first season Guzmán does not take it into consideration mainly because of his social status. This shows a change in thinking and maturity of these characters. Same for Lucrecia and Nadia who were always competing. They become friends through a competition for a scholarship. But in the end, Lu is not the cold, heartless student one might have thought. The series makes her evolve into a warm person that we would almost like to help. The absence and lack of his parents probably explain his sometimes haughty behavior. She uses it as a shell. At the level of love, couples have formed almost against their will. Samu and Carla (Ester Expósito) are in love but one is dating Rebeca (Claudia Salas) and the other Yeray. Omar (Omar Ayuso) and Malik have a hidden relationship while one is in a relationship with Ander and the other with Nadia (who herself is in love with Guzmán). These two quartets thus create discomfort and even a strong discomfort for the spectators. A new trio was also formed and we did not expect it at all. And yes, Valerio the drug addict (aka Jorge López Astorga), Cayetana the liar (Georgina Amorós) and Polo the murderer have come together as one. A social subject that is rarely talked about in films and series (Sense 8 remains the reference in the field). This new type of unconventional love has its place here and informs us about polyamory , that is, the fact of loving several people at the same time. This subject is unknown to many of us. Their connection therefore brings to the story a rather pedagogical plus. And that's not the only taboo exploited in this season. 
Social issues highlighted
Between drug trafficking, religion, the love trio and even Ander's leukemia, Elite has managed to mix entertainment, news and taboos. Values are transmitted in this series and in particular know how to forgive. Nadia is the main proof of this. She excuses her brother for having sex with her boyfriend Malik. No grudges and a sister's sincere forgiveness towards her brother. A virtue that not everyone has and that is quite honorable. On the other hand, this relationship is much deeper than a simple conquest. What lies behind it is Malik's fear of coming out, just as Omar had to do to his parents. Their parents consider homosexuality impure because of their religion. This is still very real today. Even if mentalities change and homosexuality gradually becomes commonplace, there are still many children who refuse to live their lives to the fullest because of family ideals (among others). This is not the only social problem present in the series. The love trio, as we said above, remains a taboo subject that is defended and put forward here. The creators have taken into account the changes in our society. Not only at the level of sexuality but also at the level of the general open-mindedness that we have witnessed in recent years. A point that is also addressed is the precocity of young people to become adults. 
It is true that in this season, young people are left to themselves. Carla's father almost forces her to prostitute himself with Yeray for his money in order to save the family business. This mental and physical destruction leads him to sink into drugs. It is only after coming close to death that she realizes her mistake of having entered this vicious circle, which today affects many young people around the world. It was Rebeca who sold him ecstasy. The reason? Out of jealousy. But that's not the only reason. His mother's incarceration left him without money. She therefore takes over the business to support herself. It is with Valerio that they sell drugs within the school. Given the absence and rejection on the part of Lu and Valerio's parents, they have to fend for themselves. The attempt to regain control of Valerio then goes through drug trafficking. A well-conducted paradox that still leaves us doubtful. Money in this series definitely doesn't make you happy.
A season 4 of Elite in preparation?
Many rumors have appeared recently, especially on the Spanish media Bluper, concerning a possible renewal of Elite with seasons 4 and 5 that would be in preparation. To date, no confirmation from the giant Netflix has been made. The question remains: is it necessary to continue with a season 4? 
The end of the season closes the series. Between the remission of Ander, those who will study abroad and the return for some to high school … We know more or less the future of these characters. Misunderstandings are settled, friendships have been forged and above all: Lucrecia will not be charged with murder since the case has been classified as a suicide. Certainly, there are still uncertainties, especially at the level of love, between Carla and Samu or Nadia and Guzman. But isn't that what makes the story even more interesting? Let us imagine what could happen? If the series is renewed, we would still be curious to know how the creators could bring originality and suspense to future seasons. The story remains to be followed.
