In quarantine just like us, James Gunn revealed that Rocket Raccoon will have a central role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. A news that will undoubtedly delight fans of the most badass raccoon on the planet! Indeed, during a Watch Party of the Guardians of the Galaxy, the director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe took the opportunity to chat with fans on Twitter. He then evoked the mysterious origins of Rocket. He then promised that they will be (FINALLY!) unveiled in the third part of the saga. Thus, the character voiced by Bradley Cooper, will play a big role in the story of Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
"I'll just say that Rocket is a big part of what's going to happen in the sequel. And a lot of things (like the scars we're going to see on his back) define what I've planned for Rocket from the beginning."
Subsequently, the filmmaker added:
"Some of the seemingly painfully placed cybernetic elements in his body will make for one of my favorite moments in the film. Rocket's loneliness and disaffection is central to the franchise for me."
The message is clear! For Gunn, the character of Rocket has a central place within the franchise. It is in this capacity that he will play a crucial role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. As a reminder, the filmmaker completed the script of the film last year. The start of production is scheduled for next year. The feature film should not be released until 2022 since James Gunn is also busy directing The Suicide Squad on the side of DC Comics.
