Notice to fans of the genre, Quibi, new SVOD platform, launched in early April, welcomes among its catalog the new series, 50 States of Fright created by Sam Raimi.
Who is Sam Raimi?
Born on October 23, 1959 in Franklin, Michigan, Samuel Marshall Raimi developed a passion for cinema at a very young age. It is with the help of his friends, that quickly, he shoots short films in 8mm. During his studies, he met Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell, who would later be his main headliner. At the end of their studies, the trio founded " Renaissance Pictures" and this is how their first three achievements, during the 70s, allow them to mount the financing of Evil Dead in 1982. Screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 1983, the work became cult and won the grand prize at the Paris Fantastic Film Festival. Director, producer, screenwriter and actor, Sam Raimi has many strings to his bow. If he is known mainly for the Evil Dead trilogy, he also directed Spider-man 1,2 and 3, and gave his voice in the adaptation of the film The Jungle Book, released in 2016. However, horror remains his favorite genre and he proves it in 2015, with the presentation of Ash vs Evil Dead, thirty years after the release of the film and still played by his friend Bruce Campbell.
50 States of Fright by Sam Raimi:
50 States of Fright, is an anthology series*, still in the format of Quibi, about ten minutes, which explores through 9 episodes, stories based on urban legends of different American states. The first season will draw on American stories and folklore, from Colorado to Florida, Kansas, Michigan and Oregon. For the writing of the series, Sam Raimi called on the duo of writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods at the origin of the film Without a noise, released in 2018. He also enlisted the participation of his brother Ivan, with whom he had set up the Society for Creative Filmmaking at the University of Michigan in their university years. The series promises to be interesting as well as its cast which includes Christina Ricci (The Addams Family, Sleepy Hollow, the legend of the headless horseman and Monster), Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Storry), Lulu Wilson (The Haunting of Hill House), Ron Livingston (Conjuring, The Warren Files) and Christopher Heyerdahl (Van Helsing). *Term that refers to a series in which the narrative structure is identical and repetitive between episodes or seasons.
