75 years after the Hiroshima tragedy, La Rabbia will release the restored version of Shôhei Imamura's Black Rain on July 29, 2020 (subject to the evolution of the health crisis).
Synopsis: Hiroshima – August 6, 1945. Life goes on but, one day, a terrible lightning tears the sky, followed by a terrifying breath: Hell is unleashed. Mutilated and ghostly bodies move among the piles of ruins. At the same time, Yasuko is on his way on his boat, to his uncle's house. A black rain then falls on the passengers. A few years later, the irradiated became pariahs in post-war Japan.
Black Rain comes after Deep Desire of the Gods and the moving The Ballad of Narayama. These three films show small Japanese villages and their inhabitants in a setting punctuated by traditions. But the film shows the consequences on the population of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. We see the evolution of their physical health (amputations, burns, cancers) and mental, but also the social repercussions of this sad event, since those affected are ostracized by the rest of the population. As time passes, the situation of the survivors only worsens. Black Rain is a landmark film that has received numerous awards including the Prize of the Higher Technical Commission at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989.
