Disney+, the platform bringing together 5 universes belonging to Walt Disney Studios, released on May 22 a short film on the coming-out. It depends on the Pixar universe and is part of the Sparkshorts series.

Out, a touching short film

The new short film Out is available on Disney+. As we are told at the beginning, it is "inspired by a true story". He tells us the story of Greg who prepares his move to live in the city with his companion: Manuel. His parents arrive unexpectedly to help him pack his boxes. Nothing too surprising so far. But the problem is that they are not aware of his relationship. He is afraid of coming out. In this adventure, he is accompanied by Jim, his fiery dog with whom he will exchange his body. This is the trigger that will allow our protagonist to understand the importance of opening up on this subject. Especially with his parents.  Very current and with a touch of magic, Disney highlights for the first time a homosexual main hero. A moving film of 9 minutes that advocates the freedom to be who you really are. A great evolution for the world of animation! This film is part of the Pixar collection of several short films called Sparkshorts.

Sparkshorts was not intended for broadcast

Launched in 2018, "Sparkshorts, projects by Pixar artists" is a mini-series of short films. She deals with strong and taboo subjects in a profound way, but always with lightness. You can watch three of the films on YouTube. Kittbull was even nominated in the "Best Animated Short" category at the 2020 Oscars. Their originality is that they were not to be broadcast. The goal was to discover new talent within the Pixar team by offering them the opportunity to "make the film they want", as David Lally, head of the series, explains. Budget and time were limited. For the choice of subjects, he was free, which is why it was so personal. In Purl, it is sexism at work that director Kristen Lester denounces through a ball of wool. For the film Loop, Renée in French, he highlights an autistic and mute character. Short films for young and old that we greatly invite you to watch on Disney+ !
