Released in 2011, Alice Madness Returns had rather impressed players when it was released, the title being very attractive. Here is good news that should delight fans eager to try the experience again. The game inspired by the character of Lewis Carroll will be entitled to a sequel!  Like a Psychonauts 2, the idea of a sequel for Alice has been on the mind of developer American McGee for a long time. More precisely in 2011, when he announced that he wanted to create a Kickstarter to finance the continuation of the trilogy (because yes, a first part was released in 2000). This sequel was to be called Otherlands and take the form of a short film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWRhH2Zw8no

"Alice is fighting against a greater evil in the world. One that affects not only her or the people she cares about and nearby, you know, her family and friends, but also affects society in general." (American McGee)

Thanks to crowdfunding, Spicy Horse's very tight budget is spread out in many ways. The film rights cost $100,000, leaving $122,000 for production. Alice Otherlands is published in 2015 for all donors. As a follow-up to this project, American McGee suggested the idea of a sequel entitled Alice Asylum in 2017. However, the project is not moving forward. The developer explains the reason on his blog

"EA knows you'd like a new Alice game and RJ Berg and I would be happy to help you design, write and develop such a game. We just have to wait for EA to think it's time for a new game."

"There will probably be another Alice game before we all die, but your outlandish requests, ideas, and plans to make that happen faster should be sent to EA, not me."

Finally, the news came:

To everyone's surprise, Alice: Asylum, sequel to Madness Returns, is still in production ! The proof can be found on the author's Instagram page. For this sequel, the team of nine artists, designers, producers and writers share the progress of the project via the Patreon platform . Thus, it makes it possible to raise funding. However, you should know that the project is by no means materialized and that the promise of a release date would only be chimera! https://www.instagram.com/p/CA38n4aD4mZ/ We just have to hope that Electronic Arts finally gives the green light to advance the development of the project. In the meantime, those who have not yet made Alice Madness Returns are cordially invited to discover the experience.
