During a protest against racism and police violence, John Boyega (Finn in Star Wars) spoke.  Since the death of George Floyd following his arrest, many demonstrations against racism and police violence have taken place around the world. Yesterday, in London, John Boyega, known for his performances in the latest Star Wars trilogy but also in Kathryn Bogelow's film Detroit (about police violence), spoke to the crowd to deliver a vibrant and moving speech. "Our lives have always mattered," the young actor said. "We've always been important. We have always succeeded despite the circumstances. And the time has come. I'm not going to wait any longer. (…) I speak to you from the bottom of my heart. I don't know if I'd have a career after that, but never mind. It's so essential. You have to understand how much all this hurts. " In his nearly five-minute speech, John Boyega called for cohesion and unity in the face of adversity. To the men listening in the crowd, Boyega said: "We have to take care of our women. They are our heart, our future (…). We are the pillars of our families. Imagine a nation that comes together with families who thrive, who are healthy, who communicate, who raise their children in love, who have a better chance of becoming better human beings." Following his emotional speech, John Boyega received many messages of support, including from Mark Hamill, the famous interpreter of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga. The latter told him, via his Twitter account, that he had never been so proud of him. The official Star Wars account also posted the following message: "Lucasfilm stands with John Boyega. (…) Racism is an evil that must stop. We are committed to being part of the world's long overdue change. John Boyega, you are our hero.
