Published by Dupuis, screenwriter Fabien Velhmann and cartoonist Bruno Gazzotti continue in the series Seuls, the adventures of a group of children in a post-apocalyptic world where all adults have disappeared
Walking Dead for Kids
In the first story, several children wake up like every day, but a feeling of uneasiness remains: something is wrong. All the adults are gone overnight and this handful of children must help each other to survive. They discovered in the following volumes that they were not alone, but the various adventures have dislocated the group and everyone follows his path. Even if we dress up as a Roman or a Renaissance inhabitant, each of the young heroes must make difficult choices: choose between good and evil, follow others… Only is closer to the book His majesty of flies than to Asterix. Bruno Gazzotti's drawing brings a welcome contrast because his style close to Janry (Spirou and Fantasio) softens the themes addressed.
Former friends at war
In the previous volumes, Dodji, Leila, Yvan and Terry were able to leave Neosalem, a city populated only by children and leave Saul there became the imperator of Neosalem. He rules by fear, but he does not yet understand all the rules of this community imitating the Roman Empire. We think of the movie Gladiator. To maintain his power, he spiced up circus games: Colin Maillard became Colin machine-gunned by adding a machine gun and barbed wire. Leila was captured and branded with a hot iron by this former friend. Prisoner, she refuses to lose her humanity or flee alone but prefers to organize a radical change by freeing all the Nameless. A group of Leila's old friends and new allies take it upon themselves to organize the plan, but these children are still disorganized and clumsy.
Magic
This twelfth volume also continues the links with magic. In Neosalem, Saul's power no longer works, everything rests on him. Yvan had to confront Jonathan who had turned into a monster: the sinister Ravaudeur and cut off his arm. Leila is a prescient who foresees certain events. It will have a decisive role in a war of limbo. Finally, Camille, their former friend who has become the chosen one of Evil, suddenly appears to everyone. In the rebels of Neosalem, Fabien Velhmann successfully continues the description of the chaotic journey of these children torn apart in a world populated by magic and child soldiers. However, we can regret that the pages of dialogues a little long alternate with much more successful action sequences. To read also: Like a beast: a relevant questioning on our food.
