Green Lantern: What station are we at?

In this series published by Urban Comics, the Green Lanterns, bearers of the ring, are the sheriffs of space in the DC Universe. The Guardians, a group of alien sages, ask the hero Hal Jordan to be excluded from this space police to enter a secret organization called the Blackstar. The goal is to find out who the traitor is in the Lanterns. But, by preventing the explosion of a U-bomb during his mission, Hal Jordan disappears… In this volume, the common thread of the Blackstar threat is lighter. However you can forget the previous summary. Grant Morrison, an author known for his creative madness, baroque and psychedelic creations, is at the helm of the script. In the second episode, the writer has fun paying tribute to the mythical work of Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams. Back on Earth, Green Arrow is joined by Hal Jordan to fight drug trafficking. However, the police investigation turns to surrealism when the arrow and giant hat of the old Green Arrow costume end up in the middle of a hangar. The culprit is dressed as a Klu Klux Klan member who swallowed a colorful rainbow. And his assistants are super sirens. These examples show the style of the screenwriter. The latter loves to use the past of a superhero to give a new and crazy interpretation. It impresses that a mainstream publishing house publishes this wacky project. An alien child Zzyp arrives during a Jordan family meal. The danger spreads through cell phones and turns people into zombies like DCeased.

The style of free and complex English corresponds totally to the baroque genre of the screenwriter. He manages to transcribe into images completely crazy ideas like this decaying tower composed of spoiled meat. The pages are not organized by boxes but with full pages where the same characters are in different places. These are the bubbles that indicate the direction of reading. If we unfolded all the pages of the first episode to glue them together, the resulting illustration would form the symbol of the Green Lantern. This second volume marks the continuation and the end of season 1 of a very complementary creative duo. More than a commissioned work to finish as soon as possible, Hal Jordan: Green Lantern illustrates a real competition between the writer and the cartoonist to surpass themselves.
