4AD recruit Tkay Maidza released her EP Last Year Was Weird Vol. in early August. 2, accompanied by a colorful clip for the title You Sad. A new project, two years after the release of Last Year Was Weird Vol. 1. Two years that allowed Tkay Maidza to mature her music as she explains to Grazia: "I think I've learned to trust my instincts, and I'm also learning that songs are not finished on the first day or week of their creation. I feel like as you get older, you have to be very careful with your creative process if you want to build music in a good way." The Australian-Zimbabwean artist has come a long way since his beginnings. Initially interested in dance music, she moved closer to pop and then soul. Back with this new EP, she especially wants her project to sound like " a bridge between me and who I want to be" she confides to Grazia. A project through which Tkay Maidza also seeks to bring people together and establish a connection: "I feel like this EP is about finding common ground: saying what I really feel and creating a festive atmosphere." But music is not his only favorite field. At 23, the young rapper also participates in the creation of unique brand campaigns for Stella McCartney, Nike and Coca-Cola.
