Discover behind the scenes!
In his latest works, Tonogai Yoshiki has immersed us in a world plagued by violence and chaos. This time, it is the case again, but with a major change! Indeed, unlike Doubt and Judge, this time we are on the side of the organizers of these macabre games. And what better way to discover this new universe than a main character who has undergone these games a few years ago? Indeed, we go to discover the Dead Company alongside Ryosuke, a survivor of a survival game who took 3 years to accept his fate. Imagine his surprise when he discovers the parallel activities of his new employer. At present, the characters are flown over and not very presented. We are introduced to some executives and directors of the company, but relatively little information about them is shared. We will probably have to wait for the next volume to know some interesting details. Regarding the pencil stroke, Tonogai Yoshiki has lost nothing and plunges us into a dark atmosphere when the scenario requires it. Indeed, you will notice very quickly that the boxes are much darker when the story plunges into horror and this is always so pleasant.
An air of déjà vu?
Regarding the scenario, although this time we are on the other side of the mirror, an air of déjà vu is felt. Indeed, the mangaka whose reputation is well established remains again in his universe. A new series of survival games is added to the latest titles already known to the author. In addition, Tonogai Yoshiki takes elements from his old series, including the use of animal masks. This wink is appreciable, but the lack of originality of the series makes its discovery more banal. Although having suspense, there is quite little action and the pace is rather slow. Indeed, this first volume seems to lay the foundations of the story. However, having only 3 volumes, we hope that the next two volumes will be more rhythmic and will keep us in suspense throughout our reading. This novelty signed Tonogai Yoshiki is still very appreciable. The theme, although repetitive, is still intriguing and the suspense part makes us want to know the rest of Ryosuke's adventures!
